-- Symbol supporting Visor? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5182)
Anyone know if Symbol Technologies has been working with Handspring to make a barcode scanner springboard?? That expansion slot is starting to make my head spin with possibilities.
No kidding about the head spinning bit. It also frustrates me that there's only one slot. I should study the interface spec: maybe it's possible to make a multi-slot adapter that gives you two slots or so. Then again, probably not.
What Symbol should do is integrate the barcode reader with Spectrum24 into one module. That would be perfect. Oh, and finally drop their outrageous prices on Spectrum24, by like 300% or so. After all, 802.11 stuff can be had MUCH cheaper elsewhere. I mean, $1000 for a PCMCIA module? I wonder if they sold 10.

I went to the Symbol Technologies web site, but alas, I could find no mention of the Barcode reader Springboard.
Which is unfortunate, as the director of hardware at my place of employment is trying to convince the boss to get some Visors, and some hard info about a barcode reader would be useful amunition.
There was a press release around Sept 14 that said they were going to have a scanner module (that is why Symbol is in our springboard database). Haven't heard a peep since then.

Recently, I have begun working in the band office at school and have found that the music is in an utter mess. After packing the music in boxes and then labeling the boxes with printed out descriptions, I began to think, Wouldn't it just be eaiser to bar code the music boxes and then enter the data on my visor?
Well, I'm just a student, and therefore my opinion doesn't means squat, but I believe that a bar code reading springboard module would be really handy in a situation such as this.
With recent promises and delays on springboard attachments though, I am beginning to wonder if anybody other than handspring themselves will get their act together and market modules at all.
I am working directly with Symbol and using one of their SPT1500 units. It is great! I have been told that a springboard module is 6 months down the line, but if there is a demand that would warrant it, they will look to push that date up. They ship the 1500's in orders of 1-10 thousand, so you can see the money does the talking. I would rather get the Visor than the 1500 for it's versatility.
I recommend you contact Symbol and let them know how many Visor users would like to use their product.
How can I contact them?
