I just got a good look at a BVD today and I must say I was really impressed (my own is still yet to arrive from Handspring!).

I dunno why no one has mantioned this, but did you notice that the Handspring Visor is actually significantly narrower than a Palm? This is so exciting! The narrower body also fits into the hand better.

I was alos really impressed with the Blue of the VD - it doesn't look tacky or plasticky and in fact looks really cool.

Thumbs up

I am also surprised the Visor's narrow form hasn't been mentioned much. Maybe this is just because my VDx is my first PDA, but I have held Palms, and the Visor feels WAY more comfortable in my hand. The Palms (even the Palm V) just feel a little too wide. Also, speaking of aesthetics, to me the graphite of the Visor looks much better than the Palms' gray (except possibly the Palm V). I haven't really seen the color Visors up close, so I can't comment on them.

The Visor is also lighter (in weight), taller and slightly thicker than the Palm III.

Yes, I also noticed that the Visor is lighter than a Palm. Yes, and I have tested the dot shortcut for inverting the backlight (.8) and it definitely does not work...very strange.

An interesting thing about the invert backlight command (shortcut.8). Open memopad, create a new memo, and type shortcut.8. You will notice it says something like [inverting backlight]. You can see this is actually typed, by going to all in your applications menu. If you have enough applications, when you type this, you will see it "jump" to each section of the apps typed (ie-first it will jump to the i programs, then the n, then the v...etc).

Question

Lighter is great; however, the narrower (0.2 inches I believe) concerns from the perspective of being able to use a third party case designed for a Palm III.

Actually, I'm awaiting my Green VDX but I already purchased a nice organizer / case from Franklin. Instead of having using velco attachments, the PDA actually slips into a leather pouch inside the case. I'm hoping that 0.2 inches does make the VDX slide around too much. If anyone has first hand experience with the above, please post to this thread.

Thanks!

Keith

I have the Deluxe case from my Palm III. It does make a bit of difference that the Visor is narrower, but it isn't significant.
