one of your folks who's been screwed by geodiscovery should write handspring a letter (or start a petition) to get the geode removed from the HS site. if they're that dead then then handspring should side with its users and not send new potentials to the company.

It was a clue to me way back when when they started touting their "beta testing" which turned out to be nothing more then marketing bull****.

I say I hope they and their dismal product get the appropriate burial they deserve.

I feel sorry for those who bought the product though....it's tough living on the bleeding edge of technology sometimes.

But looking at it from a brighter side...imagine making a decision like this in the middle of ones career and it involving purchasing tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of "vapor" product and having to explain *that* to upper level management. Some mistakes are less costly then others

Back to the topic of GPS's - I wound up buying a GARMIN 12MAP....I decided....the bottom line for me....when I was going to be out trapesing around in the woods in a downpour...I didn't want to worry about how my visor was going to hold up to the torrentual thunderstorms we sometimes have down here in Florida.....or how foggy some zip lock bag type device that was waterproofing my Visor was going to be holding out. I'm glad I did what I did and just allocated some more bucks and bought a stand alone unit...I'm very happy with it. Er.....ummmm....now if only would someone come up with a way to port MapSource data to the Visor so I could load extra maps when I'm on the road....lololol! Ah well..ya can't have it all I guess

10 emails in two weeks, completely ignored.

Still can't get a real person on the phone to get an RMA number to return my Geode. All of the voice mailboxes are full. Even if I could, at this point, I don't know if I would return it for fear that I would then be out my Geode AND my $300.

This totally sucks. Anybody have a suggestion on how this can be elevated with some authority somehow? Maybe the BBB Online?

John

You might as well not RMA it... at least you're holding onto some spare parts ; )

If you RMA it... that's probably the last you'll see of the Geode! Ha Ha.

Thumbs down GeoDiscovery

Yes, GeoDiscovery sucks. I was a Beta tester, and ordered one of the first production units. The Beta unit performed MUCH better than the production unit! The production unit's compas NEVER pointed in the right direction, and the production unit NEVER held anything more than a 2D lock for more than 5 seconds. So, I called, got an RMA number, shipped the unit back, and after 3 MONTHS time, still have not seen my money nor anything else. I've called, e-mailed, etc., to no avail.

Then, I wrote to Ed Foster (The Grip Line in the weekly magazine InfoWorld, [email protected]). Ed blasted a very polite and innocent bit of e-mail at the Marketing Director of GeoDiscovery and, lo and behold, I was "rewarded" with a phone call from one of their support people. He said GeoDiscovery was shutting down and is hoping to be bought oout/rescued by June 30th. He also promised to send EVERYONE who returned their Geode (and are waiting for their hard-earned $300 back!!!) an e-mail that will describe this in more detail. I have yet to see this e-mail, and from the looks of this message board, neither has anyone else.

So, like me, don't ANYONE expect that you'll get ANY PART of your $300 back! Damn GeoDiscovery isn't around, and if they are, their parent company sure as **** doesn't want to refund our money. It's so damn frustrating because there's not a damn thing we can do...

i got really sick of thier crap and sold mine on ebay. afterward i filed complaints with the BBB and the ftc. www.ftc.gov

I hate geodiscovery.

Geodiscovery seems to still be selling units on their website. I didn't see any indication of their shutting down yet. Did they announce anything about completely folding the company?

GeoDiscovery folding

No, of course not. They're going to keep taking people's money and hanging on to it. If they don't/won't refund our (RMA) returns money, why should they stop bilking other people?

Posted by bigredmed on 07-10-2001 06:27 PM:

If this is really the case, the matter should be referred to the Consumer division of the Utah Attorney General's office or the US Attorney for investigation. Any of you that haven't got your refund want to drop a dime on these guys?

For a while now, GeoDiscovery has had a 10-second commercial before and after the show "Anyplace Wild" on PBS. This was true even for the most recent episode. I assume that GeoDiscovery must have prepaid for the commercials, otherwise I doubt they would still be on, but it irks me to no end that they seem to be trying to hide the highly questionable future of their company. How many people are buying Geodes today with no knowledge of the company's financial troubles?

Posted by MbassadorK on 07-16-2001 06:35 PM:

I don't think very many people are buying them today. Most places that I've looked at the did sell them list the product as on backorder...and they most likely aren't being able to buy them from Geodiscovery direct since nobody live mans their telephones.
