-- Mobile Phone and Visor (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3802)
I am in the market for a modem for my visor, and also for a new mobile phone. I would like the two to work together so that I can connect to my ISP via my mobile. There are so many different phones out there and it is hard to get info about their computing features. The Motorola L series timeport seems to have an IR port, but would it synch with my Visor? Anyone know, or have a reccommendation. (PS. I am not about to hold my breath for a phone module or bluetooth) Thanks in advance!
Most digital cell phones (I know all sprint ones) are themselves modems, so theoretically all you have to do is connect the phone (via a special cable) to the visor via a serial cable (which currently doesn't exist for the visor) I've heard of people connecting it via the serial cradle, I haven't tried it (as I don't have the cable)
SuperStream-
If you are US based, there are Ericsson phones that will accept an infrared modem ($200!) that will allow you to connect via IR to the Visor. If you are based in Europe or beyond, IR phones are much more prevalent. I have read a number of threads here over the past month about Seimens phones doing a great job.
My Timeport does not have IR capabilities in the US.
If you are going the IR route, you will need to get IRlink from www.iscomplete.com. Make sure and read the documentation carefully since you need to upgrade some stuff from Palm, but if you do a complete upgrade of everything that Palm offers, you will totally hose your Visor.
Good Luck!
I am actually moving from Europe to the US, so it looks like I will have to downgrade from GSM. I will look for an Ericsson with IR, but then I guess I have to put up with the tiny screen :-( Or, as I have read, the Sprint PCS Timeport with a cable might be ok.
Thanks,
Superstream
I am using the US Timeport with a serial cradle and it works just fine. The Mark/Space cable is supposed to be launched any day now and that will eliminate the need to drag around the cradle. The Timeport is a great phone, too.
