Battery Replacements

Okay, I've looked at several of the rechargeable battery replacements for the VPL (and others like it) and find non of the solutions truly exciting. Here's my thought on this:

First off, a question. Can a springboard module supply power to a Visor? I know the Visor can power a SBM. But can it work the other way around?

Then we get to my idea. A Springboard Mod for the Visor that is a batter pack (and perhaps other features built in as well, depending on how small it was in terms of rechargeable battery). It could be recharged from the cradle, as this is already possible.

Just a silly thought. I seem to think I heard someone say this was being done, but I've never seen anything.

Oh well.

Silly rabbit.

As far as I know, it's a one-way street: Visor to Springboard. The slot cannot supply power back to the handheld.

Related question:

Theoretically, a Deluxe can, if wired correctly, use rechargeable batteries and be recharged in the stand since the hot-sync connector is the same for the Platinum, right?

So- what would it take for a reasonably skilled tech to do this?

Anyone know which contacts are used?

Also, where does the Plat get the power from? The computer, or is there a seperate power cord?

I understand that this would invalidate the warranty, and is probably not something that is quick, easy, or commercially practical- but I bet it is possible!

Check out this old thread. It discusses the modifications needed to convert the VDx into a rechargeable unit.

What about talesafe stuff

I see that Talesafe has an adaptor that lets you charge the Prism from the SB slot. Could somehow me tinker with that so that a second battery could be placed in the SB slot and a trickle charge be used?

So are you saying that I could put my Platinum in a charging cradle and it would recharge my NiMH batteries, or did you mean to say Prism? If this is true of the Platinim, it would be very nice as I would prefer not to have to switch batteries when they get drained.

No... The Standard, Deluxe, Platinum, and Neo cannot be charged from a charging cradle; they do not utilize the charging pin on the connector themselves. The link in my post above details the necessary warranty-voiding modifications to convert these models to a rechargeable unit.

I've been using the FullCharge in my Deluxe for a year now and haven't had any trouble. Sure, it doesn't charge from the cradle, but I'm not swapping batteries, either.
