I just wanted to say that I felt James did an EXCELLENT job on the Stowaway keyboard review. I was glad to see the info regarding the driver software and usability within applications. It seems like the other reviews I have read focused on just the fact the keyboard folded up. The more indepth review was greatly appreciated.

Now if I could just get my hands on one..

The Targus website now allows you to place the keyboard in your shopping cart, but it doesn't say if it is available to ship immediately. Anyone know if they will be available in retail when the Visors hit the stores next week?

Thumbs up

James, I second Cerulean's comments about the Stowaway review. I really appreciate the detail that you gave us. This is the MOST in-depth review that I have read about the keyboard so far, including the Palm versions.

Thanks!

In fact you mentioned one item that I haven't seen anywhere else:

"It also works well when it is on a desk and there is a small notepad underneath one of the sides of the keyboard."

What is this "small notepad"? Is there really a paper notepad attached to the keyboard? That would be really cool. I know that there will be times that I will want to use old-fashioned paper, and then transcribe my notes later into the Visor. If you could just clarify that one point, this will be THE perfect Stowaway review.

Thanks again.

The point I was making about the notepad was that if you have a messy desk (like mine) and there is stuff everywhere, the Stowaway doesn't have to be on a completely flat surface to work.

Thanks for the comments!

I don't understand why "beam recieve" has to be on.

Maybe the designers could whip up a hack or something that turn recieve on when the Visor is sitting in the keyboard and back off when you take it out?

I'm sure that the Beam Receive feature will be be fixed in the driver at some point. As I said in the review, the GoType has the same issue as well.

Question regarding the review. It said that the keyboard worked well working on your lap. Yet, I have heard from a number of other sources that it does not. Can you go into more detail on the functionality of the stowaway and working on your lap? Also, I have heard concerns about the flexible connections involved in the keyboard and whether they will withstand the test of time. Did you find the keyboard to be of solid construction and durable?

I read a review where it was clear that the person hadn't "snapped" the keyboard together after unfolding it. Maybe that is the issue with some of these reviews.

Those reviews were for the Palm version of the Stowaway, which folds differently.

I tested it in my lap myself, and I also took two of those MCP course binders and put the Stowaway on top of them.
