As I get ready to order my VDX (haven't decided on color yet), I've been wondering how you handle keeping two different computers synched. I definitely need a cradle for work (that's where most of my datebook activity will take place), and pretty much need one for home too, where I expect to play with hacks and games and such. So I'm gonna get the serial cradle package, and be hooked up on my Mac at home and PC at work.

How confusing is it to keep all the machines synched up? If I download a program from my home machine, will my work PC be updated next time I sync? I guess I'm wondering if the synching works in both directions for everything, not just the data.

Don't know if I've phrased the question coherently, but hopefully you get the idea. What's involved when using two computers with two cradles?

It's really simple. You just sync on each machine after installing Palm Desktop on both. Your programs are then installed on the Visor so I'm not sure what you mean about installing programs on both machines. You can install software onto the Visor from both work and home PCs -- they won't be removed when you sync on the other machine.

I think you answered it, if you can install software from one machine, and the other machine won't care. I didn't know if that was part of the synching process.

Sounds like there's really no issue at all....

Neil!

Hey, I think I know who you are...do you do the VW Passat/Audi A4 wheel web site? Hmm...a Visor geek too, eh? Your question is a good one, but you don't need to worry. You can download apps, etc. from work and hotsync them to your Visor. When you go home you can do the same! You better hurry and figure out what color to get, though...it's like ordering an A4...a LONG wait!

The apps are not backed-up when you sync. Only the data is backed-up. So you can easily sync between two computers. I would recommend a program called back-up buddy which will back up the apps on you visor so you can restore all your apps in the event something happens. I installed it after I started playing with apps and hacks because some apps and hacks will crash you visor and cause you to lose app all the installed apps.

Thanks for the responses. I think I understand the way it works. Sounds like it should work great.

My BVD + extra serial cradle is on order.
