Unhappy

O.K., I've read a lot of other threads, and the best answers when not able to sync seem to be reinstall desktop, check setup, and by all means soft reset. I've done all and am still at an impasse. Maybe I can help myself better if I know I've got the right setup. How does one know what Com port the USB ties to? My modem's on 2 and I've tried to sync on 1 and 2, and with slower speeds on each, but it still acts like there's no connection (wires are fine.) Device manager shows only 2 Com ports.
So.....

I don't have a visor yet but it sounds like you may have a problem with your USB setup in Windows. Check to see if your device manager is showing any USB ports. If not, you may have to get your Win 98 CD and install them. You can also check your BIOS to see if the ports are enabled.

I hope this doesn't sound insulting. I made these mistakes when I bought a webcam and that got it working.

Good luck and let me know how you like your Visor.

Talking

Thanks for the thoughts Hoov.

I'd actually already checked Device Manager, but your comments did inspire me to check something else out.
First I should say, as a Palm/HS Newbie, I made the mistake of trying to install too many (like 60 or 70) prc's at one time. The computer eventually crashed and trashed system.ini. The only recourse was to reinstall W98, which then required me to reinstall sound, printer, modem etc. drivers again. Somehow the modem got set up on Com 3 instead of the previous Com 2. The Visor was still setup to go Com 3. Once that change was made, all was cool. So thanks for the spark.

I have Windows Millennium running. From what I heard, its based on the win9x kernel and is very similar to 98. So, if I'm having problems syncing, this would mean?
