Question

newbie question........
Isnt everything already being backed up as long as i sync?
If i backup the palm directory....wont that be enough?

confused newbie............ZZZZZZZZZZZ

It *should* all be automatically updated. However, the Palm OS isn't exactly perfect in doing this.

BackupBuddy is great for much more than just backing up your visor. You can create sets of files, only back up certain apps, etc.

Personally, I use BackUpAll, a free little app that makes sure that all apps do get backed up when you hotsync.

You can find BackupAll on http://yanoff.sourceforge.net/
(For some reason, I had to split this URL into two lines for it to show properly.)

I recommend both BackupBuddy and the Backup Module though. If you like to try new software (and new versions) on a regular basis, both of these are worth every penny...

Also, as noted previously in threads, Backupall does NOT remove files from the PC that were delected on the handheld. So when/if you restore from the PC you would get a bunch of deleted files. Unless you manually delete the files from the archive directory on the PC each time you delete them on the handheld.

Backupbuddy handles this issue for you. I tried both and am using Backupbuddy. It also moves the deleted files to a separate archive folder (oops! protection)

I use BackupBuddy and I have a Backup Module. The reason I use both is because I keep all of my programs on my 8mb flash module and all of my data in the internal memory of my Visor. BackupBuddy backs up the internal visor memory as well as everything on the 8mb flash module (obviously, the backup module only backs up the internal Visor memory). From what I understand, BackupAll cannot back up the flash module. Also, I like having the backup module to carry with me when I don't have access to my PC. Personally, I would pay any price to know that everything on my Visor backed up. I could never reduplicate exactly what I have stored. Quite frankly, that's a little scary.

This is the reason I opted for the Visor over Palm units. I have too much time invested in entering data to lose it all.
Again, Backup module means I can restore anywhere, anytime.
In fact, I am considering getting another backup module to keep safe at home and then alternating them.
I'll probably get a CF springboard to keep incrementals backups of certain data.

I use backup all, but only after I move my backup directory to a new name (with a date).

So when the sync runs it creates a new "backup" directory with only the stuff on my visor in it.

Note that backupall does not backup the 8Mb module...

Thumbs up Yet Another BackupBuddy/Backup Module user

The combination of BackupBuddy and BackupModule works pretty well for all circumstances I'm in. BackupBuddy performs reliable backups every time I hotsync -- I don't need to remember to backup. It's saved my ass several times, and is highly configurable.

Backup module is for "on the road" situations, or when I'm going to try installing something tricky and want a memory image of my Visor.

Every time I think of losing all my Datebk4 preferences... yikes. But I don't worry about that anymore...

I recommend both Backup Buddy and the Backup Module to everyone

I recommend both Backup Buddy and the Backup Module to everyone, unless that person always carries a laptop around. Then the Backup Module becomes unnecessary.
