-- Post-Visor name speculation (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1136)
I wonder why everyone seems to think that Handspring will follow Palm's anything-but-logical model versioning scheme and call its next product the "Visor II." Since the product name differs from the company's name, which is not the case for the Palms, and since Handspring has submodel names like Deluxe and Solo, I feel certain that the next product out of Mountain View will be named something like "Sombrero."
What do you think?
I've always wondered where "Visor" came from in the first place...anyone know?
I actually hate that name the more I think about it. I like Handspring as a name, just not Visor.
I believe Jeff Hawkins' daughter thought up the name "Advisor" and Hawkins shortened it to "Visor".
Very interesting discussion here. I believe that Handspring will keep the Visor name though. Why waste millions of dollars worth of branding and use a different name for future models?
Maybe though, they will come up with cool and catchy sub-names similar to the "solo" and the "deluxe".
Just my .02 cents.
Next product names:
Visor II
Visor IIc
:-)
Felipe
I heard the new name for the Visor's sister will be Blarntskee. Blarnt? Because I said so.
At least that's what I heard on the street...
"Sombrero" works for me. HS may be on to something with a product line based on headgear.

Personally i think that they'll keep the current"Visor" name. Sure i dont't particularly like it and it doesn't really make that much sense but people would get confused with all types of different names. Remember that most people that'll be buying these things aren't looking on Visorcentral and such looking for the latest PDA news. So the next visor(or whatever) will have similar features so save the new names for a totally new product. But maybe he should ask someone who knows what they're doing next time. I like the Stallone approach myself...
Rocky... Visor
Rocky II... Visor II
Rocky III... Visor III
Rocky IV... Visor IV
Rocky V... Visor V
... in standard and deluxe models, of course!

How about an eyeglass-mounted unit, like in that IBM ad... the "Visor Visor".
Or what about following the Nintendo Route and calling it 'SuperVisor'!
Later,

Rocky was already used as the pre-release code-name for the Palm III. And, "in Japan, 4 is an ominous number foretelling bad luck." Thus "[n]o modern, globally aware company would dare market a product called the [Rockey] IV".
I was doing a little reading the other day (Pogue's "Palm Pilot, The Ultimate Guide".
