-- Creaking Case? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2851)
Hey all, my GVX has developed the 'creaking case' syndrome, I've had it for about a month now, does anyone know if HS considers this a warranty replacement? I dont want to embarass myself by calling HS giving them my info, and hearing them say no.
Guido:
Call Handspring and tell them you want a replacement sent to you. I am almost 100% that they will arrange for you to be sent a replacement at no cost to you. Be warned that it is possible that you might be sent a refurbished unit.
Unless the creaking is really bad, I would recommend you ohold on to the unit for now since everything else is working just fine. You can always get a replacement/repair later if need be.
Maybe not for long. When I got my BVD replacement they said the waving of the $75 fee would be ending soon. The only reason they aren't currently instituting it is because they're computer system can't charge you yet and it's currently being updated.

i just received my replacement Visor two weeks ago. I can't tell if it is refurbished, but it also has that "Squeeking" noise. Not necessarily worth returning, but it's clearly shoddy workmanship and I do not see how they could charge you $75 to fix it...it's their fault.
I heard the $75 is for replacing damaged screen.
I noticed the 'creaking' noise recently on my Visor...but it seems to be the little 'drawer' module. When I take it out, it stops...and it really only does it when the 'drawer' is pushed on.......
Doesn't really bother me......
I am also another person who has suffered from the creaking case problem. I did not really realize it until I tried using a friends visor and noticed the difference. My creaking was caused by pushing down on the handspring logo on the back of the unit. After careful examination I noticed that the back of the case was actually bowed out and the module placeholder was not flush with the unit. I called handspring and they offered to replace the unit and it was expected to be on my doorstep in 3-5 business days. Next day I get home and there is my replacement visor on the doorstep. Apparently they shipped it via overnight shipping. Could this possibly show a promising side of customer service? When I opened up the box I found a replacement visor (refurbished) and a deluxe stylus! Handspring also paid for the shipping both ways! I am now happy with a creak-free visor and a pretty good stylus to boot. I suggest to all those people who are thinking about a return to just go ahead and do it.

My Graphite VDX is also a victim of the bowed-back-creaky-case syndrome. It bothers me a little, but not enough to trade it for a refurbished one.
It doesn't make noise when the springboard "blank" is removed, because that's what it rubs against, but it's still bowed in the back.
I was thinking about a drop of super glue between the bowed back and the springboard plug-in slot.

Hmmmmmmmm......
Be careful using superglue... or CA. The chemical recation that causes the glue to set usually clouds plastic.
Gluing the case shouldn't really be an option, anyway. Myc ase creaks a little... I just accepted it as the price I pay for getting a Visor at $250 and not getting a Palm at $400.
superglue and other structural bonds don't usually do well in tension, so chances are, even if you do superglue it, it'll probably pop right back out again over time.
