-- Mac OS9.x fix for Syncing (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2653)

I called Handspring and found out that there's an issue with OS 9.x.

The current "fix" is to delete the entire "Backups" folder in your Users folder of the Palm folder.

Then you can sync. It does take awhile because the Visor backsup it's ENTIRE contents again. I haven't tried setting the backup conduit setting to "do nothing" yet.

Michael.

Question

Hello Michael !
Are you using AvantGo ?

I am asking that because I tried everything (soft & hard reset, reinstallation of the software...) and.....it worked perfectly until I reinstalled AvantGo !
Then I have the same hotsync problem.

Should I wait for them to fix it or should I downgrade to 8.6 ?

I run OS 9. I can sync fine, but after I sync, my serial port monitor quits and I am unable to hotsync again until I restart. I moved the backup folder onto my desktop and set the conduit manager to do nothing to the backup. That didn't work. My serial port monitor still quit.

debauld:

I had that same problem with Desktop 2.1(h) on two different G4s. Handspring was no help and just said to re-install it...even after I explained to them that it is their software that is the problem...as it is reproduceable on completely differently configured machines.

So, I upgraded to Palms 2.5 desktop. Now is syncs without crashing, but I can only do it once and then I have to restart. Others have found the same problems.

msurtees: Thanks for the tip on the backups folder issue. I will try that and report if it works for me with 2.5.

I also found this tidbit from macfixit:

After talking to Palm, I got the following resolution: Make a copy of the "OS 9 All" extension set then add 1. Instant Palm Desktop, 2. Palm Connect USB, 3. Palm Connect USB SerialHAL, 4. Palm Connect USB SerialShim extensions to the set and save it. You would be able to Sync fine if you start the Mac with this set of extension. So far it's the only way that works for me. It's very annoying to have to restart to HotSync....but at least right now it's the only way to have it done.

Well after trying differents things, it looks like the only to sync without problem is to delete the backup folder like previously msurtees suggested.

Now my problem is that, I did a hard reset before so there is nothing to back up !
Does somebody know what are the files name of the backup for the main app. (Memo, address list, To Do....) ?
Thanks for your help.

Good luck to all Mac users !
