-- Ir Printer recommendations? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12456)
What are your suggestions for printers that have an Infrared (Ir) port for printing from PalmOS apps? Are there any low-cost ink jet printers that have one and offer PC/Mac compatibility?

I know that HP makes a printer that takes IR, Smartmedia, and CompactFlash. It can print an index of all JPEGs on media cards, and print from any of theses media on photo paper at sizes up to 8x10. All w/out a computer hook up. They had them at the old photo lab I used to work at, they bought them and we used them out of box, no software, no computer anywhere near them.
The display is basic (no lcd or pic display). I think this is it: hp photosmart 1215 w/free usb cable.

To the rescue. woooosh
Found this a while ago, from a different company though. Theres said it would work with any system, as long as it does irda by the standard. This one, I guess it would too. I'll keep looking for the other company.

I got a refurbished Canon BJC-80 for around $80 (including shipping) a few months ago and it works pretty well. It didn't include the ink cartridges, so add another $30 to the price. Definitely an affordable, portable option with an IR port. I got it off UBid, although I could never recommened them, and will never do business with them again. They don't have any for auction right now anyway, but you may be able to find some elsewhere that are cheap.
It's time for print drivers
Ir printing is cool and more and more useful now that I get a lot of personal email through my OmniSky account. These print apps that are available are so kludgee. I have PrintBoy on my PRISM. Ir printing should be built-in to PalmOS. Printing from a clipboard - come on! Printing all documents with the print driver company's name across the top, give me a break!
portable inkjet
I purchased a factory-refurbished Cannon BJC-50 (tiny irda portable) from UBid a while back for $125 with ink and a rechargeable battery. I bought it for a friend, and now I am kicking myself for not buying two!
I have purchased a ton of equipment from UBid.com, and I am 100% pleased with every transaction. I have purchased a 2 computers, 2-17" and 1-21" monitors, zip drives, MS Office 2k pro, 4 UPSs, the above printer, and more. My coworkers have purchased several computers and scads of random housewares.
No, I don't work for UBid... I just felt the need to defend them a little. I guess different people have different experiences...
Anywho, long live Wordsmith!

If your looking for a portable, get one of the Canon BC-J's? It is a inkjet printer (known to cannon as bubblejet.. YES I know there BIT different but still.) and runs off a battery.
IF your looking for a desktop Printer, Most HP laser's have it, and the NEW HP 990 CSE has one.
I myself am looking into buying a canan printer for use at school in by backpack..

I was thinking the same thing .. I already take all of my notes and work on assignments using the stowaway/wordsmith combo .. would be very cool to whip up a paper during class, print it out and turn it in .. hhehehe.. talk about total pda geek. -- if I could get one of those Canon BJC-50's for about $100-$130 or so, it might just be worth it

Ir Printer
SiPix makes a very small thermal printer that is easy to use and works well via the Ir port. The price for its extreme ! portability is A6 paper size. however you can enlarge it in a copier to full size if you had need of such.

Seiko makes the DPU-3445 'micro-printer' that does thermal paper and uses IrDA standards. I got one from Egghead Auction for $33.
It uses 4 1/8-5/8" thermal paper. I got some at Radio Shack on clearance, 2 rolls for $1.97- cleared out my local store! Office Depot carrys 'medial/lab thermal rolls' that will work wonderfully.
You'll need PalmPrint or IRPrint to communicate (they do not tell you that), and oddly, the Egghead package did not come with a cord for the battery charger, but that was only a few bucks at any big hardware store or Radio Shack (similar to the type a mixer uses).
The DPU is slightly wider than, but similar to a paperback book, wihtout the rather bulky paper roll holder.
Of course, just after buying this, I discovered the InfraReady Adaptor for $55 from the PrintBoy people. Sheesh!
If anyone is interested, I'll swap the entire sheebang for an InfraReady Adaptor! This includes the printer, roll holder, battery, charger and cord, AC power adaptor ('Universal high amp' unit), instructions, and about 6 or 7 rolls of paper. Off-the-shelf total cost is about $75. I also get the shipping penalty cuz this stuff will be bulkier and more fragile than the adaptor!
