Would that be okay? Because then it would probably be cheaper to just get one from somewhere else..

You can use third party styli. however, they probably won't fit in the stylus-silo in your visor.

This means you have a higher chance of loosing/forgetting you custom stylus...

But then what about those styli in the 5 pack. They certainly don't look like they would fit. Then again, I wouldn't know because I don't have my VDlx yet so I don't even know what the stylus looks like!

Third party styli can be expensive. PDA Panache's styli are about $30 for one!

Sure they're nice, but you'd better hope it comes with a tracking beacon should you ever misplace it. For $16, you get 5 decent styli from handspring, so losing one wouldn't hurt your wallet as much.

One neat thing that I found is that if you use the leather slip case that comes with the Visor, you can put any stylus inside the case. Just slide it right in after you put in your Visor.

Not very elegant, but it gets the job done.

Hey Zephyr, where do you get your info from? $30 for a PDA Panache! Come on, maybe for the pen/pencil/stylus combo. A Palm III stylus with built-in reset pin is $16. I imagine the Visor stylus will be similarly priced. Heck, even the pen/stylus combo is $20. $30, I think someone gave you some wrong info.

I own an Autopoint Stylus+, which provides me with the stylus, a pen, and a 5mm pencil, and it cost me less the $15 (I picked it up at an office supply store).

It certainly doesn't fit the stylus holder of any PDA, but I've had it for over 18 months now (I've lost two styluses since then), and use it all the time.

You could always custom build one out of almumium or brass or titanium. Or even better, solid 24 carot gold

kozak-mea culpa-I went to the pda site, and they are not as expensive as I thought. But still, after shipping and everything, they're still not inexpensive.

Nutt,

A stylus that's ten times more expensive than the PDA you use it with. Sounds like an American product to me...

Wink

Back in my Newton days, I remember somebody used to use a chopstick.

Heck, I'm still using the stylus from the desktop cradle that I had for my long-forgotten MP110. Full sized, fits the hand, won't get lost in the pocket. Not much more than a plastic & metal chopstick, really.

OTOH, I really like the idea of a dual pen/stylus. Just don't click the wrong click, or you'll scratch the #%$@ out of your screen.

Actually gold is really cheap. Then only problem is that it'd be so soft it'd deform if you dropped it

I bought a Pilot Pentopia Chameleon a week ago and it fits pretty well in the silo for my Visor Dlx. Cost about $20.00 from Best Buy-contains very small pen and reset piin-nice feel-like it alot!!!

Deb,

I was considering purchasing the Pentopia Chameleon but the Visor is not listed, on their web-site, as being compatible.

Can you tell me what you mean when you say that "it fits pretty well"? I would expect it to be a little tight as I think the Visor's silo is narrower than other Palm devices.

Check out my new post in this forum if you're at all interested in a combo stylus.

The Pilot folks will not say over the phone or on the web site that the Chameleon is compatible with the Visor. They are supposed to be releasing a Visor replacement stylus on or about Dec. 1-but I couldn't stand the plastic one that came with the Visor, so decided not to wait.

The Chameleon slides easily in and out of the Visor silo. The top of it isn't quite made for the Visor-so you have to be careful not to push it too far down in the silo or its difficult to extract. I've found if I push it down just so the top of the stylus is poking out of the silo, it works great. Nice spring loaded tip on the stylus too!

I found my at a Best Buy for $20. I was able to try the fit right in the silo before I bought it.

Good Luck!

Deb,

Thanks for the info on the Chameleon. I think I'll wait for a vendor to release a Visor-specific "in silo" stylus.
