How Long For Flicker to Appear?

I keep reading so much about the flicker -- For those of you who have "perceived" this flicker -- how long did you have your unit before you noticed it?

Also, how readable is the Prism Screen in the car?

If your screen is going to flicker you should notice it from the start. Some screens were worse than others. I hardly ever notice mine doing it, but once in a while it will flicker. For some reason, if I turn the brightness all the way down it is worse. If you install the ContrastAdjust utility and play around with the different settings you can definately see that it could be bad.

I sometimes try to use my Prism in the car but it normally does not work well. The brighter it is outside, the worse it is trying to see the screen. I just crank the brightness up all the way and try to hold it so as little light hits it as possible. I still love my Prism, but I really wish it had reflective screen. It would be awesome.

The flicker is quite real and not "perceived" !! I had two Prism's, the first one was perfect, then the recharge LED died, called Handspring for a replacement unit, the replacement unit flickered like there was no tomorrow from the second I turned it on, the blue areas were the most noticeable, in fact I put the two units side by side.. Since my original was impaired, I returned it and lived with the flicker on the replacement, shortly after that, someone discovered a very odd way to adjust the contrast, not the brightness, but the contrast.. The contrast adjustment work-around fixed my flicker problem and my replacement unit was now just as good as my original one.. Just recently, Handspring released an "official" contrast adjustment utility for the Prism (this makes it much easier to adjust the contrast on the Prism)..

The Prism is readable in the car during the day (which I am guessing you are asking about), so long as you don't have the screen in direct sunlight. The more shaded from the sun and/or light the better, however at night it's excellent.

I think Chilla was quoting Handspring when he said "perceived". That is the exact thing HS says in their FAQ about the ContrastAdjust utility. I do not thing Chilla was saying our screens really do not flicker, I believe he was being a bit sarcastic towards HS.

Or, maybe he despises us all and is working in conjunction with Brain in an attempt to take over the world by causing each of us to get angry at HS and destroy our PalmOS PDA's and switch to PocketPC's. That settles it, Bill Gates is Brain and Chilla is Pinky...

Actually, I was poking some fun at HS for declaring the flicker as "perceived".

I *am* a bit perturbed w/HS because (like everyone else)I wish they'd come out w/a new color device -- reasonably priced and comparable to the newer upgrades we are seeing. I love my VDX and would rather stay w/HS, but for the same price as the Prism, I'll be able to get a Clio 610C, with a more versatile screen (as far as readability in various light conditions). Don't want or need the MP3, just a PDA to use for data/scheduling. I was poised to go w/the Prism, but now will wait til the 610C arrives. Hopefully, HS will give us an alternative before then.
