Angry Good Technology gives up on SpringBoard

Zdnet is reporting that:

"Good, which was founded in March 2000, started out with the Visor audio attachment, working on the assumption that enough Handspring devices would sell to support companies focusing on add-ons using Handspring's "Springboard" expansion slot. But the market for Springboard modules has been modest at best. The SoundsGood module is no longer available and is not being manufactured anymore, according to the company."

Better they get out of the Springboard business that's not profitiable for them and devote their resources to their wireless efforts, per that same ZDNet article - As a business they have to go where the money is, and I guess they found out that the money isn't in a $150 MP3 player, however cool it is.

I'd rather have them stay in business and come out with more cool stuff in the future than bet the farm on Springboards and wind up like Vaporgear - er, I mean Innogear. I'm sure their employees will be happier that way, too.

Although, given that they have already devoted resources towards developing springboards, they probaby don't have a steep learning curve. If they can get their wireless initiatives off the ground, it's concievable that they'd create a always-on email springboard. Think RIM internals, using the Visor instead of a three line screen and a thumb-board.

that would KICK.

Wow- I wanted an Energy Clip, and already I cannot find them on the board- PalmGear and Amazon seem to be out of SoundsGood stuff already, and their website is being rebuilt.

Did you try here? It looks like they're in stock:

What's wrong with Minijam anyway? No MMC reader?

Oh, darn. I wanted to get a SoundsGood one of these days. I guess that's why they went out of buisness.

No, it's probably that the MiniJam just plain bites.

especially b/c it uses MMC ... why can't they make an mp3 player SB that uses CF or SM?

Innogear does sell a USB MMC reader for the minijam (a must if you own a minijam), it's just that the format of the MMC card is in a proprietary format (this is very bad), that's the biggest problem with the minijam, the other issues are features that were promised and not shipped with the product and have yet to surface as an update (i.e. blink the LED on the minijam as a silent alarm, palm data/program storage on the MMC card like the Memplug, etc.. , in fact I think we are coming up on the 1 year anniversary of the last minijam update from innogear.

SpringBoard market is practically dead!

Your answers to my original message indicate a lack of motivation and effort on the part of SpringBoard manufacturers.

No more energy clip

I ordered the energyclip from Palm Gear, but they told me it is NLA. They sent back what they had an only have a few for replacements. I called Good, but they told me they just couldn't make the numbers for the Soundsgood player. They suggested e-bay for the energy clip.
