I was out of town for the weekend, and came back to a Visor that was delivered on Friday. I haven't had a chance to read any of the messages of what has happened for the last several days.

However, I have a question. I was using the stylus on my visor and it seemed to "stick" on the screen. When I write some letters in graffiti, or slide the stylus accross the screen, it feels sorta rough. I have a Vx to compare with and the feel on the Vx is very smooth like glass. My Visor's screen seems to be rough. I tried using the Palm's Vx stylus on the VDx but it didn't make a difference. I also tried cleaning the screen of the VDx.

Is this how your VDx's screen feels?

I received my Deluxe on Friday and played with it frequently over the weekend.

To answer your question, my screen seems very smooth although I have no previous Palm experience to compare it with.

I wouldn't call it rough, but it definitly resists the stylus movement more than the my pilot did.

Yeah, I guess rough isn't the word. When I move the stylus up or down the screen, say in a vertical scroll bar, I can feel resistance at different points.

It's like I am pushing the stylus and then all of a sudden, I have to push slightly harder for a little bit. Then the screen smooths out and I don't have to push as hard.

The Palm Vx feels like glass under the stylus. It's kinda a slick feel when you move the stylus across the screen.

Other VDx and Palm owners... Do you feel this or do I have a defective unit?

Mine seems fairly slick, but I can see the "membrane" over the glass is a bit slack, so the screen feels "soft". I seem to recall this on another Palm though, so I think it's either normal or it'll shrink down over time to fit the screen snugly.

I really like the screen but I cannot get used to the "membrane" that seems to be on the screen. When I push on the screen it dents in slightly and looks a little wavy when viewed against the light. This seems a little wierd to me. My PalmPilot seems more like a solid, hard glass finish --- there's no indentation when writing.

Does anyone know if there's a membrane on top of a hard screen? Or is the screen a "soft" one?

It seems that if it is a soft one, that it will get marked up a whole lot quicker than the Palm screens.

With all this time waiting for my Visor to arrive (Ordered 9/29, but they screwed up the name so who knows when) I have been reading about PDA's in general on Usenet and such...

Go to www.deja.com and pull up a search on 'palm v soft screen' and you will see that those wonderful 3com users also have this problem...

They mention visible indentations on their screens even when using soft stylus pressure...

Sounds horrible... Anyone have a semi-glass hard screen on their Vdx?

I posted this in another thread, but I've eliminated the "rough"-ness of the grafitti area by simply running my finger over the spot. There's no screen there, so you can't see it and it makes the stylus move REALLY smooth across it. I would do it to the whole screen, but that would look annoying.

Actually you can do it and not have it show while benefitting from the increased glide.

Thanks for the tip! Actually I just cleaned my screen with some "VisaClean eyeglass cleaner" and now I don't have the roughness anywhere on the screen.

That was my only complaint about the Visor and now that is fixed too!
