Question

I've got several questions about the Kopsis FlashAdaptor and Springboard Compact Flash memory, and I was wondering if someone who is following the situation can enlighten me:

1. What is the status of the Kopsis Engineering software
(CFSbLib (full version) & FAFileMover)?
Is FAFileMover currently available on Palmgear HQ?

2. How is progress coming along on the other upcoming
software releases (FABackup/FARestore & finally
FAAutoMove) detailed on the Kopsis web site
(http://kopsisengineering.netfirms.com)?

3. Is any manufacturer coming out with a Compact Flash
(FlashAdaptor) or MMC expandable Springboard memory
module along the lines of the Kopsis design?

If so, with the necessary software, could such a module:
(a) function like the Flash memory on the current 8 MB
Springboard memory module?
(b) allow users to see and use databases on the CF card
as though they were actually in the Visor's RAM?

4) Has anyone heard from the Japanese developer who is
attempting to wring full Compact Flash compatibility out
of a FlashAdaptor module? (In other words, enabling the
FlashAdapter module to work with a CF modem (or any
other non-storage CF card)

5) Along those lines, I heard that a Japanese manufacturer
is shortly coming out with a 16 MB Springboard Flash
Memory Module. When will this module be available in the
States?

Also, has VisorCentral done an article on recent developments with the CompactFlash adaptor and Springboard memory modules?

Personally, I think it would be of great interest to many Visor enthusiasts.

P.S. It seems we have a President

The FlashAdapter drivers and the FAFileMover app are currently in beta. We hope to have a "1.0" release ready by the end of the month ... but that depends on how many bugs are still lurking. The beta is free (it is time-locked to expire in a couple weeks) to anyone who joins the flashadapter-forum on eGroups - http://www.egroups.com/subscribe/flashadapter-forum

FAAutoMover is still in development and with a little luck will go into beta test next month. FABackup/FARestore is still on the drawing board. All these apps get a great deal of code reuse from FAFileMover, so our focus is getting that one rock-solid first.

Yes, but I am not in a position to give names or details. I expect you'll start seeing commercial modules using FlashAdapter technology in the spring ... but keep in mind that's not something we have any control over.

Not entirely. The FAAutoMover app will create the "illusion" that files are directly accessible, but it will still have to copy them to RAM (which can be time consuming for large files) when accessed. For a detailed explanation of why this is so, see http://kopsisengineering.com/flashadapter_faq.html#q8

Sorry I can't field your last two questions ... I am just as in the dark on those items as you are
