-- Replacements? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13434)
I was curious how often Visors need to be replaced. Since nobody posts when their visor works fine, but people often post when their visor breaks, I can't get a good percentage on how many Visors have broken down on someone. Please take the poll, thanks.
431 days and still going strong...

I only answered for myself, but I've dealt with 3 replacements. My 2 were for the DRAM bug and a cracked case (closest I can figure is that it was caused by the fit of the slim leather visor case being too snug). My wife's had to be replaced for a flaky addressbook button. All three replacements were overnighted and were indistinguishable from brand new visors (even though I'm pretty sure they were refurbs).
3 cases, 1 battery issue
First of all, I love my Visor Prism. However, the case isn't too strong. My first one had the old paint rubbing issue..sent it back for a new one. The next two have cracked on the side right at the base of the stylus holster. Both cracked in the same place. The fourth one had a crack in that same location when it arrived and quickly developed "issues" with charging the battery. Alas, my fifth one is on the way...this one is supposed to be new and not refurbished. Handspring has been absolutely wonderful and the process relatively pain free; my use of the device has not been interupted but it has been a minor hassle. With the release of the Edge, Handspring seems to be addressing the flimsy plastic case problem. The Prism should have had a tougher case. My ole Palm Pilot 5000 (from U.S. Robotics) lasted four years without case problems and my wife is still putting it through the paces

Never had to replace my Visor Deluxe in the year or so I used it as my primary PDA - despite dropping it a couple of times. Haven't had to replace my Prism in the few months I've had it (knock on wood), although I do have the paint rubbing off problem, so I may do so eventually.
I'm definitely in the "5+" range. I'm very hard on equipment. My deluxe just hit the dust, so I'm "borrowing" my wife's prism until my tax refund gets here (4 more weeks
). I'm seriously considering the edge, if only because of how rugged I've heard it is.

Replacements
1 stolen, 1 bad screen, and my present 1 for about a year+
3 Units
I received my first IVX on 12/28/99 and my first replacement on 12/2800! Only three months later the screen cracked again, only I'm not sure how it happened the second time. I swear that it wasn't cracked when I put it in the cradle, but later on it was...is it possible that a screen can just "pop"?
Anyway, both replacements arrived in fewer than 24 hours. I was pretty damned impressed!

Knock on wood
First VDX, purchased May 31, 2000, from Staples. Still going...
One stopped working (digitizer went all wacky), one hit concrete (oops), one would constantly reset, one would not turn on every 3 power cycles, and now I'm on my 5th.
Knock on wood.

on my second, ready for a third
i got my first prism in december. the charging/hotsync contacts were broken. they overnighted a new one which i've been using since. the new on is losing paint and has developed cracks. i will probably have them replace it, but i will wait until my warranty is about up.
Palm Pilot Original to IIIx to Platinum to replacement Platinum (screen wouldn't respond to stylus).
My BVD just stop working after 15 months, (screen stopped responding to the stylus). Is this as common as it seems on this thread?
Just bought a Platimun.
