Red face AHHH!!! Cracked screen!!!

My screen broke today!!! I'm planning to get a Prism soon, but I may need to sell my current Visor to pay for it! :^(

Does anyone know:
a. how much a replacement screen from Handspring would cost, or
b. if there are any places I could get a screen for a lot less than from Handspring.

I think I could replace the screen myself. It happened during normal use, and I bought the thing a few months ago from CompUSA. This is the first time I've broken a screen, but I think I may have violated the terms of the warranty.

Thanks for any help!

Exclamation More problems!

Since I last posted, I found that HotSync wasn't working. I tried soft-resetting my Visor, and now it's just sitting at a splash screen! And I have data that will be difficult to recreate. HELP!!!

Handspring charges $85 for a replacement visor, though that may not apply to you as you purchased it from CompUSA. Did you get a warranty?

I don't think anyone sells new screens, but I remember seeing a site that sold used screens for something like $40-$60. Can't remember where, though (somebody remember?)

Can't help you with the reset problem, unfortunately.,

BTW, you may want to try a more descriptive title than "ahhh" for your post.

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Question

Brent,

You say "It happened during normal use, and I bought the thing a few months ago from CompUSA. This is the first time I've broken a screen, but I think I may have violated the terms of the warranty."

What do you mean it happened during normal use? Do you mean you dropped it? Is the screen actually cracked? I dropped my Visor last month and the digitizer no longer accepted stylus input although the Visor did power-on. There was no sign of damage from the fall. Handspring replaced it the next day -- I even told the Customer Service rep that I had dropped it!

When I said "during normal use", I meant that I hadn't been mountain climbing with it or anything. :^) I'm not exactly sure what made it crack (and yes, there are visible cracks in the the silkscreen area, with one going all the way across)--it's always in my jacket pocket, so it probably smacked into a wall or something while I was walking around.

BTW, I did a hard reset, and now I'm at a digitizer setup screen that I can't get past because the cracks are screwing with the touchscreen stuff. I thought a HotSync might restore my old digitizer settings and let me use my Stowaway to control the Visor, but no dice--I have to pass the digitizer setup before I can hotsync {sigh}.

When the Handspring rep replaced it, did he charge you for it? Also, did you originally buy yours directly from Handspring, or did you buy it at a retail store?

One more thing: I was going to get a Prism anyway, so do you think Handspring would be willing to let me trade my current Visor in (plus some money) and receive a Prism in return?

Question Short Term Solution?

Alright, here's what I need at this point: I need a way to bypass the digitizer calibration so I can HotSync and put the Stowaway driver back on. Once that's done, I'll at least have basic stuff back. Any suggestions on how this could be acheived?
