I'm looking for proof and answers!

Is HS gonna really discontinue The Edge soon?

Posted by Schrader on 07-08-2002 04:40 PM:

no

I hope so

But why is red only avalable from HS's website?

Red has always only been available from HS directly...its their 'special' color.

Posted by dorelse on 07-09-2002 03:37 PM:

Sorry, misread your message, you meant ONLY red is available...yeah...doesn't bode well does it?

Posted by dorelse on 07-09-2002 03:39 PM:

I just clicked on the 'buy it' button, and it says for Blue & Sliver 'No Longer Available'...so its curtains for the edge.

Red is in stock. (And for $169.00 + the free case & free shipping, I picked one up. Can always use a backup.)

you people are silly - the edge is NOT being dicontinued. end of discussion.

Posted by dorelse on 07-09-2002 03:56 PM:

Umm...you're absolutely right, the Edge is NOT being discontinued. No way, no how. Handspring will be sellin' them forever (probably close to the truth.)

Posted by Schrader on 07-09-2002 04:54 PM:

nothing is forever.
but they're not discontinuing the edge anytime soon.

haha
you got me on that one.

personally, I don't think Handspring is manufacturing any new visors anymore. Whatever they have in their warehouses and out in the retail market is probably all that's left. For them to publically say they're discontinuing a product would kill whatever potential sales are left. They're probably spending all their money right now making treo's.

So I believe, officially, no, they're not discontinued, but unofficially, they sure as heck arn't making any more new ones!

As an aside: I miss my edge. I *really* want to buy one direct from HS with the keyboard and case as a 'backup' for my m505, but I know that's just boneheaded and a waste of money (even if it is relatively cheap).

Wait a minute...you callin' me a bonehead? It was my favorite PDA, just wanted color & MP3 playback, so moved on. Always loved the form factor though.

Thumbs up awesome!

it's one of my favorites, also.

Posted by mr_yellow on 07-10-2002 08:31 PM:

No no no no!!

I didn't mean to call any of you who purchased edge's as a 'backup' pda a bonehead.

I was simply calling myself a bonehead!

And with the recent discontinuation of the edge, I really really miss the form factor.. Oh the flip cover, the thinness, how i miss it..

Actually I envy all of you that do have an edge still.... I wish I wasn't as stingy with my money..

*sniff*.. it was such a good deal too! 169+75 for the edge, hardcase, and stowaway keyboard..

you're not the only one.
I'm giving mine to a friend, but I'll miss my edge.
but not everything is gloom and doom in schrader-land, cause I got my treo90 with me.

but this is a sad occasion.

as you may notice, the edge is discontinued
its no longer avaliable
oh well, guess i'll get another Palm

Isn't Life Ironic

I just bought a Treo 90 on Monday from Best Buy to replace my 2nd m505 that went bad on me. I just returned from Best Buy a few minutes ago with a Visor Edge that I exchanged the Treo for.

I kinda liked the Treo, if nothing else for it's size and weight, I barely knew I had it in my pocket. But I couldn't handle the small thumboard with my big thumbs and I didn't like how the screen was barely useable in direct sunlight.

I had two choices in which handheld to get in place of the Treo, the Edge or a Clie T-615. Yeah I know that most of you would say go with the Sony. And I probably would have except for three things.

One, yeah sure I liked having a color screen, but it really wasn't necessary for me. Yes, it did make DateBk 5 a little more useful, but that was marginal at best. Two, since I had a Visor Deluxe I have loved the included apps that Handspring provided. I didn't use DateBook+ much but I did use the Advanced Calculator a lot (I really loved all of the conversions it could do)and CityTime was great for seeing what time it was in a world hot spot. Three, the buttons, besides the jog dial, on the Sony are just plain bad. I love the fact that the Edge has real buttons, which will make the no-stylus mode of HandyShopper easy to use while in the grocery store.

So now I get home and check VisorCentral and see that the Edge has been discontinued. Oh well I guess I was just late to the show. I just wish that Handspring would have had the guts to release a color screened Edge, now that would have been quite the handheld.

well, even though I use a N760C on a day to day basis, I use my Edge for golfing, any non-work related activities it goes with me. The N760C is just too fragile to risk it.

My edge is over a year old and never had a problem.
