Angry GeoDiscovery sinks to a new low???

I received a message from GeoDiscovery on January 4th 2002. I was surprised to say the least. Shocked even.

After cooling off and deleting a few drafts of my response, This is what I sent to them. It took a whole lot of effort to keep it 'no-nomex-required'.

Are these pinheads back on the map?

Poor timing since it look like the SpringBoard may be a ghost in the future based on the latest from the HandSpring camp.

Dear Geodiscovery,

As a GeoDiscovery customer from day one when you offered your pre-purchase of your GPS system, I was thrilled to see a company stepping up to the wish list of the Handspring user. Your product was the right feature set and design for the market, and the market was jumping with eager GPS enthusiasts looking to harness the power of the GPS to the capable Handspring PDA.

As a customer who has received the worst 'let them eat static and silence' customer service tactic from day two, I am extremely OFFENDED that you sent this to me. Any time I had sent email, called, or tried to post on your now-defunct forums and developer's area, I got nowhere. Never even resolved a warranty issue I had.

I'm a small Developer LLC, besides my full time job for AT&T. Both of us are quite upset at your apparent lack of concern for your customer base. We used to hang on your every breath because you were the best game in town. When you forfeited the game, you lost our allegiance to your product and your company.

The attached memo sent to me by your company is yet another reminder of the poor sight you folks have when it comes to your customers. I was planning on building products and services around your GPS. Co-workers of mine were even planning to purchase a few for wireless research at one time. We all lost faith.

You owe us an explanation.

Subject: GeoDiscovery seeks your input

January 4, 2002

Greetings,

GeoDiscovery has created the Geode GPS Module for use with Palm OS based handheld computers. It uses a state-of-the-art GPS chipset that allows up to 2 meter accuracy (WAAS) at a relatively low cost. GeoDiscovery is now creating a Geographic Information System (GIS) for enterprise and organization usage. A GIS is a computerized system for the creation, collection, storage, and retrieval of geographic data. It includes in-field and in-office equipment. GeoDiscovery's system includes a handheld computer with electronic storage and GPS input (the Geode GPS Module), an enterprise server, and means for communication between the two.

We are seeking information from those whose place of employment uses a GPS or GIS. If you or others at your place of employment use a GPS or GIS your responses to the questions found at the link below would be greatly appreciated and will aid us in creating solutions to the location-based problems you may deal with.

As a way of saying "Thanks!", those who provide contact information will be entered in a drawing for a Geode GPS Module for the Handspring Visor.

Thank you,

GeoDiscovery
