And Iambic Reader is 177k, let's face it... if you want markup rendering you need a larger program. The thing is, though, I'm not running Mobipocket on the Palm, I'm running it on my Jornada, with 64M of RAM.

Now there are programs on the PPC that'll eat all the memory you can throw at them. Pocket Streets requires so much RAM I don't bother even TRYING to keep maps in main memory, they all stay on the flash memory card so I'm only chewing up space for the one I'm actually viewing.

But Mobipocket... Mobipocket is positively lightweight by Pocket PC standards.

Agreed. How about Palm Reader...that is an excellent eReader and it is available for PPC as well.

IMO, PPC is the superior reading device, although Sony's NX series comes close to perfection. I use my M505 as my workaday PIM simply because it is smaller and more convenient to carry. But when I'm in the mood to read an ebook or browse through AvantGo channels, the Axim is my first choice.

Well, that's a matter of debate. I don't much care for Peanut Reader, myself... but certainly either of them are far better than Microsoft's obtrusive and inconvenient effort in this area.

As both a reader and a publisher (free)books who has been involved in this area for quite some time, the Visor/CSpotRun/MakeDocW combination just cannot be beat. No more wasting money on proprietary software. The .DOC format is crossplatform. Unfortunately, PPC doesn't seem to have anything for the reader to view these books.

I'm not against commercial publishing, but PPC folks have so little choice.

The Visor/CSpotRun/MakeDocW combination makes it possible for almost anyone to read - it's about affordability and accessibility.

I would be very surprised if there is anything CSpotRun will display that Mobipocket can't. Mobibook format is DOC format, with extra embedded SGML codes for markup. You can look at a Mobibook in CSpotRun to see what the markup is, and add what you need before running through MakeDoc if you want to maintain some of the markup from the original (things like bold and italics can be vital to the meaning of a work).
