I'm going to France for 5 weeks during the summer and I would like to take pictures. I was wondering if an eyeModule 2 would suffice.

Would an EM2/MemPlug solution work? I know there's some problems with moving the DBs to/from the MemPlug, but would encapsulating them in a PalmZip work (as suggested by someone on this board)?

The EM2 specs say a Visor with 6MB free can hold 50 pictures, which means each picture is 120k in size. How good is the compression on PalmZip? Also, what size SMC would be appropriate? I'd like to use the MemPlug for backup as well.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know much about palmzip but i'm assuming its compression is comparable to that of winzip/gzip's. Also, the EM2 takes jpeg's as pictures which are already compressed a great deal so using palmzip or any other compression utility won't make the files much smaller than the 120k you speak of. However, palmzip would be useful for bundling the DB's that are used for the EM2 and thus seperating each set of pictures that you transfer to the memplug.

As far as size of SMC, I might suggest 32 or 48 MB. This will give you plenty of room for pictures (maybe some video )and some backup space. SMC prices are relatively low compared to CF and MMC so you may want to get a 64MB card.

I was wondering what the quality of the .jpg viewer of the memplug is? Would you know? I've been thinking about it cuz then i could transfer .jpgs to SMC from my computer and have a little photo album with me at all times.

Depends on what you want the pictures for.

If you're looking for pictures you can simply add to an email and aren't too concerned about the quality of the image, the EM2 would probably be ok. If you are looking for keepsakes/memories/whatever, then I'd say take the same amount of money and buy something like the Yashica T4 Super. You'll thank yourself if you ever want an 8X10 of the pictures you take.

I'd like to keep the pictures for memories, etc, but I doubt I'll be making 8x10's. I'll probably be doing regulars (4x6?). I'm interested in the EM2 because I'll be carrying my Visor around everywhere I go, so buying a completely different camera and having to carry that is a pain.

Could have sworn I pressed Submit Reply...

Here it is again anyway.

I don't know what the quality of the viewer is, as I have yet to purchase one. What I do know is that the viewer reduces the pictures by 8x or something like that. I'm not two sure about the capabilities of these two, but Album To Go and Handspring Photo Album are two other picture viewers.
