Angry

Looks like Handspring is preparing to drop another bomb on us Deluxe owners. The picture they have on their website:

http://www.handspring.com/products/...one/index.jhtml

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost SURE it used to be a Deluxe pictured--it has now changed to a Platinum. Does this mean they are also going to announce that this module will ALSO not work with the Deluxe.

Hopefully not, since it would contradict the statement CURRENTLY under System Requirements:

System Requirements
VisorPhone is SpringboardTM Compatible and works with the Handspring Visor, Visor Deluxe, and Visor Solo handheld computers

Arrow

Well, considering that there are still plenty of pictures that still use VDX's like this one you're probably ok.

I find it hard to believe that the Minstrel modem requires a specialized shielded version of the Vdx, but the new VisorPhone does not? And the pictures we've seen links posted here on VC do not show any evidence of shielding in the case at all when you open up a Prism. Hmm!

It still sounds like a software patch is needed. I'm really surprised a third party company hasn't come forward to fill in this very obvious gap where there could be lots of money to be made.

I agree. Frankly, I don't see why Handspring doesn't use the Prism and the Platinum for most of the VisorPhone pictures. After all, they'd probably want to promote their latest, greatest products during the holidays.

AFAIK, they only wireless unit in which the sheilding is an issue at all is the @ctiveLink. The wireless carries using the Minstrel have issues with OS 3.1, not sheilding. And the problem is probably limited to PQA's, which require at least OS 3.3, not real-time access.

Arrow gameboy mistaken

I was under the impression that problems with the Minstrel vis-a-vis Visor Deluxes were two-fold:

1. Shielding is still a problem, even if you don't want PQAs.

2. PQAs require OS 3.3 or higher.

I also remember Handspring having a FAQ on the @ctivelink module vis-a-vis the shielding issue that also mentioned the VisorPhone as having the same problem. I cannot find that FAQ now, though.
