-- Help! I have an oddball syncing problem! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2509)
Greetings.
I am so thrilled...I got my Blue VDX today and set up my serial hotsync on my NT box at work and successfully sync'd several times. I had not a single problem.
I took my Visor home and installed the USB cradle on my Win98 box and cannot get the syncing to connect to my computer. I have a USB printer that works on both USB ports. I have tried reinstalling the software, soft-reseting my Visor, removing the printer, rebooting my pc, reinstalling the palm desktop software (I told it to sync with my Outlook 2000 at home, and to sync with palm desktop at work because I don't want my Outlook stuff from work on my visor).
Does anyone have any ideas? My intuition tells me that it is either my pc or my USB cradle at fault. I checked my device manager and there are no apparent conflicts. Could it be a problem if my modem (installed on COM1) has the same com setting as my Visor is trying to use according to the HotSync software? I am at a loss, but will keep fiddling with it.
Had the same problem on my Win98 at home. You probably need to edit your registry - there seems to be a glitch.
It's been a couple of months since I ran through it, so your best bet is to search this forum for "REGEDIT". I've seen numerous posts outlining the fix. Good Luck - the sound of that beep when the damn thing was fixed was music to my ears!
Ok... dumb questions, but...
1) Is the HotSync manager running (icon visible in the system tray)?
2) Is HotSync configured for "Local USB" (right-click on the icon and make sure it is checked)?
3) Was the cradle attached to the PC before you installed the sofware?

Thanks for your advice and consideration!
I actually fixed the problem.
Mark...yes, I did have the cradle installed before the software and the Local USB option was the only one selected in my HotSync monitoring software.
It turns out that by removing my USB printer and then installing only the visor and rebooting the system...I clicked the hotsync button on the cradle and it installed the driver (the one the install software places in your windows\inf folder) and all works perfectly fine. All software sync'd properly and I'm really pleased.
Again, thanks for your responses.
This is a great DB. I will be recommending it to anyone else I know that uses a Visor.
