Cool

I do not seem to see any cases for the edge. Does one come with the edge? Does Handspring provide for one? How does it attach?
Thanks

My blue Edge arrived today, but no, it doesn't come with a case of any kind, not even the black sleeve that came with the Deluxe. I, too, have been worrying about a case for the Edge. I'm hoping Handspring will expand the "design your own" line to include the Edge, but I haven't asked them about that.

Keeping the outside surface of the Edge scratch-free concerns me more than protecting the face, since it has the metal flip cover. May have to think about making my own fabric case...

Any sources anyone has learned of that don't involve Velcro?

Cool Slip Case from Old Visor

Hi guys...

Just got my Edge. Damn, I needed one of these things...It's so cool. Anyways, I ended up putting my Edge in the slip case from my Blue Deluxe that I am replacing. I have seen some neoprene zipper cases for Palms. I'm looking for a case simply to transport my unit from work to home to where ever. The fancy leather cases on the Handspring web site seem to defeat the purpose of the slick little machine. Anyone who gets any bright ideas about cases, please do post...

Talking

Amazon.com also has the metal case for the Edge. I think it sells for $34.

Yup. Here's the case from Amazon. It actually sells for 39.99, and from what I can see of the picture, it looks like it has a good design. Only problem is that it's not avaible yet .

Edge Hard Case

Thanks, Ben. I dug all through Amazon trying to find the one Mich was talking about.

I really like the look of the green Nubuck case I bought from Handspring for my Deluxe. It'll go back to HS along with the Deluxe, if I keep the Edge. (Just bought the Deluxe last week and am trying to decide whether to trade up to the Edge before my 30 days runs out.)

Trade

Ellen,
If you're interested I'll trade you my Prism (1 month old-like new) and Ice 64mb Minjam, and a Brown Nubuck Prism case ALL for your Edge, I dont want to go through the hassle of going through E-bay. Let me know if you, or if anyone is intersted. ([email protected])

Cool Hard Case

Has anyone talked to anyone at Handspring and inquired about when the hard case may be available?

Thanks,

Josh

I e-mailed Handspring last night about Edge cases, but I specifically asked about the design-your-own line. Haven't heard back from them yet.

Interestingly, if you're on their page for Edge accessories, and you let your cursor "hover" over the photo/link for cases, the tooltip(?) text reads "Cases - soft cover and hard cover." So they must be planning an expansion to the fairly limited (IMHO) line they're offering now.

Yeah, I'd've put money on that.
This 1st one is prob. just to get something out the door asap, before people start complaining about there not being one.
Gotta give HS credit for designing a "smart" case -- that lets you see the green LED even as the Edge is inside. It could easily have been overlooked.
Wise, too, to make it of "AA" (I guess) -- so it can be as thin as poss., not losing the advantage of owning an Edge. I bet it's even thinner than the Palm V's famous hardcase.

I'm very happy for you guys. I'm just the type who has to hold something in his hands first. (In every retail store I go to the salespeople SIGH like it's the 1,000,000th time that day they had to say no when someone asked: "Do you have any Visor Edges in stock yet"?)

Cool There may be less options...

Hey guys,

I sent an e-mail to Handspring to inqire about the hard case that is listed on Amazon - this is the reply:

>Thank you for your inquiry. At this time we have no >plans for a hard case as the Edge comes with a metal
>flip cover.

Well, hmmmmm. Perhaps they cut back what they were planning, but because Amazon is a partner they sent them all kinds of product announcements.

Any thoughts?

Josh

I had e-mailed Customer Care at HS about the design-your-own cases to fit the Edge. Here's the response I received today.

"Thank you for your inquiry. The design for the cases will be coming out soon. I don't have a specific date, so please keep checking our website for the cases to be announced."

So... that's what I'll do...

Question HS Leather Cases and VE

Does anyone know if the leather cases from the VE sold on their website need velcro for attachment?

Say what you will about Palm, but the design of the Vx made it so you didn'y need #%$&ing velcro to use a case. Hopefully the VE doesn't need it either.

Hope that all is well with everyone.

The details on the Hanspring site say that the "Visor Edge clips securely into case". I take this to mean that they utilize the same mechanism as the Detachable Springboard Slot, i.e. they clip to the grooves along the sides of the Edge.

The holding mechanism is very similar to that used with the old cases. There is a plastic plate in the leather case that clips to the top and bottom of the Edge. It is held quite securely.

Smile Cases

Thanks for the information guys. Based partly on what I read here, last night I bought a shiny new and very very cool Visor Edge!
