Preventing your Visor from falling

I wear my Visor in case on a swivel belt clip so that it is always handy when I need to make a note or look something up or to be reminded that I'm not where I'm supposed to be. One problem with this arrangement is that my Visor sometimes pops off my belt, sometimes without my noticing it. I've lost it twice this way outside my house and have miraculously found it both times. However, I don't expect my luck to hold out forever, so here's what I've done to prevent this problem.

1. Get a good case. My first case was some kind of plastic Rhinoskin model that used to pop open and dump my Visor on the floor. I ditched that case and got a Rhodania, which holds the Visor in very snugly. This case has held up well for about two years (with minor repairs).

2. Reinforce the plastic swivel (i.e., the plastic knob that slides in and out of the belt clip. The act of swiveling in the belt clip eventually "saws" the rim of the plastic swivel off, dropping your Visor to the floor. (I've gone through two such swivels.) In the absence of something sturdier (like a metal swivel), I've taken to filling in the interior of the swivel (which is hollow) with epoxy glue. I haven't had a broken swivel since I've been doing this. It is important to fill the swivel with glue only up to about 1 mm from the top, since the "tooth" from the belt clip needs to be able to catch the rim of the swivel from the inside.

3. Even with this, the swivel still pops out of the clip sometimes. My final fix was to buy a small plastic retractable keychain---like the kind that janitors wear on their belts, but not so bulky or heavy duty. Mine is about one inch in diameter, and I found in the jewelry department at Walmart for $3.00. I attached the keyring around a strap on my case, and hooked the belt clip on the key chain onto my belt. I still keep my Visor clipped into its swivel clip. When I need to use my Visor, I just unclip it from the swivel clip: the keychain cord extends as far as I need. Surprising, the cord has not gotten in my way. This morning, my Visor popped of my belt as I bent to get in my car, and the keychain caught it before it struck the garage floor. And I laughed in Murphy's face.
