-- Stow away broke my Prism! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=21433)

Angry Stow away broke my Prism!

I bought the Keyboard & the voice recorder from Office Depot. Thanks for the sales tip!

Yes, I know it was operator error. But the fit on the stowaway is so tight that when I tried to put the keyboard into the prism, the connection port broke away inside the prism.

Fortunately I have the extended warranty from CompUSA.

Now I've got to decide if I want to sell my modules and upgrade to the Sony or just get another Prism. hmmmm....

Operator error my a$$. That's a factory defect in the Prism, no question.

In the Prism? I would think it would be with the Stowaway if anything.

"The connection port broke away inside the prism.'

Now, unless the stowaway now comes standard with mini jaws of life that clamp down on the hotsync connector, this is a fault of the prism.

Angry No jaws of life.

Looking at the connection - I don't see welds. It's like the connector was just glued to the board.

See attached for detail.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I seem to recall miradu had several with that exact problem.

This has been a fear of mine (got my stowaway a week ago). That connector is TIGHT. I've been debating finding a way to whittle it down a little - but I was thinking I might need that friction when using my xircom (heavy) modem...

I had this problem with my VP using the Flip-cover. Had to take it apart and reset the board into the locking pins. Ever since then it's been fine.

I had this problem. The connector is soldered onto the board and
not very sturdy. Handspring replaced my Prism.

I also had this same problem snapping my Prism onto the stowaway. Handspring replaced mine as well.

Lightbulb

Insert sound of hand slapping forehead.

It never even occurred to me to call Handspring. I took it back to CompUSA and used up my extended warranty. They did not have any Prisms so I was forced to settle for the 615C. Now I have to decide if I want to get a cheap deluxe to use my modules in or just sell them off. The stowaway and the Voice recorder came from Office Depot just a few days ago so I can take those back.

I was going to stick with the Prism if they had one. I figured it was just a sign . . .

Glad to hear I'm not the only one to mess up my Prism.

Yeah I have kidna done that to my Prism twice..

It is a major design flaw IMHO. Notice how the Treo uses a complete different design for it's hotsync connector..
