is where I got AOL software for Prism. When I click on Instant Message icon, it proceed to dial out and it really tries to dial/send phone nbr to Minstrel S and it was
stuck at that point. I tried everything I could to get AOL software to work with Minstrel S but I could not.

Any tips to get AOL software to work with Minstrel S?

I think you are using the full version of AOL. If you want to use AOL Instant Messenger, follow the link that jclark put in his post.

Got it. Yes I was using full version of AOL for Palm which requires to dial out via modem with phone line. The correct software to download is http://aol.com/aim and download AIM 1.0 for Palm OS.

For those of you that already have an Omnisky modem, can I put the modem in and take it out without any problems? Say I have other springboard modules, Will taking the Omnisky out cause configuration problems or anything like that?

Taking off Minstrel S modem anytime should be fine. I usually turn off via software and then take it off.

What kind of battery life are you getting for your modem?

I have not looked at battery life of modem closely yet. I usually go out and use for an hour or so then come back and recharge it.

Battery Life Is Great

I believe the battery life of the Minstrel S is rated as up to 12 hours or so (someone correct me if I'm wrong...I don't have the specs or my manual in front of me).

Anyway, I've been using it HEAVILY everday with my Prism since I got it last week, and you can definitely go an entire day without recharging.

Always-on

I saw a note somewhere that the YadaYada service, using the Minstrel S modem, worked in an "always on" mode, which I take to mean like a two-way pager. Could someone that is using one currently please set me straight?

A few examples:

Do you get kicked off for inactivity (and if so is there some way around this)?
Will I get alerted to new e-mails immediately, even if I'm not using the modem (but it is plugged in)?
What about Yahoo IM; can I stay logged on all day?

Also, any comments on service providers, especially YadaYada versus OmniSky? What's the real differentiation between the two (or others)? Or those that bought from Novatel directly - what software are you using?

I usually can cause a serious crash if I remove the modem if one of the application that get added and removed is still open. Examples of this are:
1. Minstrel
2. Power Switch

I had to do a hard reset last night when I turned off the modem from the Power Switch application and then removed the modem. The screen just froze. When I did a soft reset, all I got was the splash screen with a black background. I tried a couple more soft resets with no success.

I don't know why this happens because I've taken the backup module out with the backup application still running. Can anyone tell me if this is also happening to them.?

***Do not try and repeat unless you have done a backup using the backup module***

What does the Omnisky module due to the battery life on the Prism? Does the Prism's battery get affected much when you use Omnisky?

Like other poster say, I can use Prism with Minstrel S using Omnisky all day without worry about battery life.
Since Minstrel S has their own internal battery, so I would assume Prism use battery the normal way. One way to extend the battery life is keep screen dimmed. However in bright sunlight, you will need to get the screen to highest brightness setting.

When you are using the modem with the Prism, you will tend to use it more than without a modem...

Just a thought...
