Red face

Have I posted this before? Because I know it's happened to me before, but I can't remember if I posted for help or how I solved it last time.

My backup module doesn't show up on the main menu screen when plugged in. It turns the power on at insertion/removal if the Visor is off but I don't get the icon to show in the list of programs and it won't put me to the backup prompt screen, either.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm.. Maybe your RAM is currputed? Goto the Palm Info program.. (from the menu on the home screen) and select module, instead of internal. You should see a program named backup, and it should be about 50k. If not, than you have a bad module. IF you do.. hmm..

You said:

I ask:
What launcher are you using?

Reason for question:
I guess it may not matter too much which launcher you are using exactly but I may have an idea of what is happening. The Backup module application is in the Unfiled group. If you have your favorite applications in the Main group then Backup would never show up. If you have it set to All group then you'll probably see it.

I asked about the launcher because I use Silverscreen. I have my most used applications in Main and never see Backup when I plug it in (after returning to applications screen, of course). I changed my Backup to be in the Utilities group where it rightly belongs.

Hope that helped.

Hmm.

I'm not using any special launcher...just the standard one.

I don't see an option for "module" when I look at the Info screen from the main menu.

My backup module is not the problem. It works fine in my co-worker's Visor.

Grrrr...

Anyone have experience with the 1 year warranty from Handspring? I bought from Best Buy last April but I think it's only 90 days with them (no extension plan for me)...

Ok, I am going to close this one myself.

I am feeling a little bit sheepish but I fixed it with a soft reset. I don't know why I didn't try it first; I was thinking hard reset...and then thought, oh, how am I going to do that if I can't back up with my module and my BackupBuddy demo is expired...but I did it with a soft reset...

So, moral of the story is, I guess, learn from baut's mistakes and try the elementary things first!

Seems like this is a reoccurring problem (at least it sounds the same as this post http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...?threadid=12168). What is the nature of this fault? Anyone?
