mm02

Hmmm. Donna Dubinsky was quoted as saying

quote:
mmO2 is a natural partner for us because it shares our vision of integrated, next generation wireless devices and services that offer real benefits to the consumer,
from which I can only conclude that she's not a subscriber to BT Cellnet ;-) (That's the UK arm of mm02, which is the new name for BT's latest attempt to dig themselves out of debt).

I really hope they do deals with some of the other big carriers, like Vodafone and Orange, which are a) operating in more countries and b) more popular.

mm02/Cellnet still don't even manage proper voicemail alerts on the UK network, they have sod all in the way of extra services - nothing comparable to Orange Voice Media/Text Media, data still stuck at 9k6, a shoddy billing system and apallingly high charges for roaming.

They used to claim the largest number of customers in the UK, until they had to admit that many of those were dormant accounts with phones that were never used...

I wouldn't hold out hope for decent pricing from mm02, either - they just launched the RIM Blackberry in the UK, at a ridiculous price - 439 - especially considering what a pointless device it is when 60% of the population have GSM phones that can exchange SMS with each other.

Still, it's here - though the UK press release I received this morning doesn't say when mm02 expect it to ship. If they're talking with other networks (I sure hope they are) then some of them will take longer; Orange in particular can be slow, since they insist on doing their on QA checks on new handsets.

Nigel.
