-- Hot Sync via IRDA (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10075)
Anyone know if it is possible to Hot Sync via the notebook IRDA port?
Thanks
Yes.
There are some freeware utilities out there (Workpadsync and BeamSync) and a non-free one (I think it's called IRSync).
Workpadsync has been working for me for a year. I tried Beamsync, but switched back because it failed in the middle sometimes and I had to sync again.
Here's a link with a lot of details.

I have done it sucessfully.
I have a VDX and had to use IrLink (www.iscomplete.com)
due to PalmOS3.1. See the IrLink website for details
on how to get IR to work on your VDX, then you simply
tell Hotsync manager to do a serial sync on the comm
port associated with your IR port. Thats it.
It is, however, slow.

Thanks guys i am trying IRlink now but no success.
I have a Compaq M700 notebook running W2K Professional. Not sure if W2K is the problem or the hardware on the notebook. I know that the IR port is working as the IRLink Device Discovery and detect the IR port.
However can't sync
Anything i am doing wrong.
I think that Win2000 currently doesn't work with IR Hotsyncing.
Apparently, there was a change to the way IR ports are used under 2000.
Several of my coworkers here upgraded from NT4.0 to 2000 and now are back to the cradle. The good news is, that at least USB works on their laptops now. That outa tide them over until IR works again.
IrDA Sync and Win2K
I too can't get my Visor to sync via BeamSync and Windows 2000.
Any work arounds for this yet (besides using a cradle)?
IrDA HotSync
Just a couple thoughts on IrDA HotSyncing ...
I posted an article on the O'Reilly Network covering in detail IrDA HotSyncing and the Visor (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2000/12/15/irda_hotsync.html), and while testing devices and software, I discovered that it works fine for both Macs and Windows PCs -- except if you're using Windows 2000.
No one has figured out how to work around the changes Microsoft made to the handling of the Ir ports -- at least not yet that I know of.
I think that's really disappointing because IrDA communication is very cool, and if anything, on the upswing. I'm keeping an eye peeled, and if I hear any good news for Windows 2000 users, I'll post it asap.
