-- CF cards and Eyemodule2 databases. Bad news. (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12646)
Well, I got my Matchbook drive and a CF card and started testing things out in preparation for my vacation. I hadn't seen anybody elses tests with the Eyemodule2. Here are my results:
To begin with, here's what I'm working with:
Visor Prism with 3.5 megs available
Matchbook Drive
32-meg PNY Compact Flash card
FMFilemover Ver. 1.0.1 (Not yet registered)
Eyemodule2
Here's what I determined:
- If I move the 4 database files for the Eyemodule (bukeDB.PDB, burkeMovieDB.PDB, burkeNoteDB.PDB, burkeVGADB.PDB) to the compact flash card, the files will be created again with no problems when I put in the Eyemodule2.
- If I put the database files back on the Visor (after taking more pictures and copying them to a different directory on the CF card) and try to hotsync, the Visor does a Fatal Reset with the following error: "DataMgr.c Line:5964,Invalid uniqueID padded"
- In order to get it to hotsync while those databases are in RAM, I have to take a new picture and a new movie with those databases. BUT, it only copies the newly created picture and movie during the hotsync. Not the pictures that were already in the database before copying back from the CF card to RAM.
So, essientially, I have not yet been able to figure out how I'm going to be able to take pictures for 2 weeks while on vacation in Italy.
What I really need is something that will extract the pictures from the eyemodule database and put them into a photoalbum of some kind. Preferable one that resided on the CF card (but I could always move it over manually if needed).
At this point, I'd also start looking for alternative/fall back picture taking methods (i.e. a digital camera, or a 35mm film camera) for your trip. It would be a pity to go to a place like Italy and not have the ability to take all the pictures you want.

Try packaging db's with pz or ZBoxZ
CyrusL,
If you're up to it, try packaging the burke*DB's with pz or ZBoxZ, then transfering the package over to the CF card. Hopefully, the packaging will "protect" the individual db's from the process of translation from palm db to msdos FAT filesystem and back.
Please report results if you try this, because this is the main reason I'd like to get one of the CF modules or MemPlug.

Has anyone successfully tried this procedure with a Handspring 8MB Memory module?
based on the "Invalid uniqueID padded" error, I'd hedge a bet saying you are missing a file.. obviously something knows it's not in sync. It may even be something that is not even related (application ID) wise to the Eyemodule, maybe common prefs or something.. trying backing up and restoring different groups of files.. In theory think how the backup module would work.. If you had to restore from a hard reset with the backup module, would the Eyemodule also give you this error message? I'd guess not.. so it's probably a file you overlooked.
(backup you Visor before trying this)
You may even want to hard reset your Visor, then get use the filemover for the compact flash to establish a "base line" of what are the factory shipped files for the Visor. Then install the eyemodule take a pic or two, then go back to the compact flash file mover and see what new files have been installed. These should be the Eyemodule files.. Try not to do anything else with your visor between baselines (i.e. calculator, memopad, etc..). Try backing up these new files first and see if that works for you, if not, try backing up all the baseline files (both Visor default and new Eyemodule files), if this works, then repeat the process eliminating the Visor baseline files one by one till the process fails, this should reveal all the files necessary..
however, if you need to back up a shared file (i.e. Visor factory shipped baseline file), this may impact other applications that store their data in the same PDB database.

Ok, so I tried copying the 4 eyemod2 databases to my 8MB memory module and back, and it works fine (hot sync works). It may have something to do with the file mover software...

But, when I copy the files to the CF card and immediately copy the same files back, the problem occurs. That doesn't really sound like I'm missing a file, it sounds like attributes for a file arent being copied or the file isn't being copied exactly. I think. Does that make sense?

You know, pix that you get with EyeModule aren't going to do justice to travel photography anyway. It just isn't good enough. I just came back, used a real camera. (See some on line at http://marksquires.com/pindex.htm)
