-- Foldable USB/Serial cradle - any experience? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=14192)

Question

There is a product on the market - folding cradle, with both serial and USB connectors. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it?

There's been some prior discussion about it. I've seen it in person at CompUSA but have never actually used one.

Wink

Thanks for reply. Yeah, I saw it there first, too. Read the discussion. The price went up a little, but still seems like a bargain with both types of connection (never mind five color faceplates). Was just wondering of anyone's actual experience, the pitfalls to avoid and such. Looks/sounds a little too good to be true.

I use one at my office, where I have both cables hooked to different computers. I connect the serial to my NT box, which doesn't 'do' USB, for my Lotus Notes syncing. I hooked the USB to the G4 for all my application installs and Avantgo, as well as backing up. I just flip the switch for whichever computer I need to use and voila!

It's a great product, and I think I paid $19 for it about 5 months ago - what a steal. It is easily the most important thing I bought for my Visor. Buy it, you won't regret it. The orange faceplate to match my VDX isn't too bad either.

I use the serial cable on my NT at work and the USB cable when I travel with my laptop. Without a large module installed it stands up ok.

Talking

Ok, great, at least some people used that already.
I'm just a little confused as to which "switch" you (patwoods) flip to go from one computer to another, and
what "large module" is refered by j762538.
Too bad it's not $19 anymore, saw in CompUSA for $30.99, which is still under MSRP of $35.

Lightbulb clarification

There is a switch on the unit to switch between the two cables, usb or serial. And the large module means that if you had a heavy module (visorphone or GPS I guess) it might tip over as it is not ultra stable. But it is fine for normal springboards...
