-- Is a battery charging Springboard possible? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5177)

Question

I was reading thread http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/001040.html and started wondering if all this wouldn't be easier if there were a Springboard that would charge batteries while in the cradle. I'm no engineer, and hardly follow some of the discussion in the above link, but thought it might be feasible.

The module wouldn't necessarily be a power source, but merely a battery charger that, when containing batteries and plugged into the cradle, would recharge them. Does anyone know if this is possible without modifications to the Visor? I really don't know if I have the guts to perform surgery on my visor to get this functionality, but would also like to utilize the idle time in the cradle.

Not trying to slam anyone here, but would't it be much easier to just -change- the batteries, than to install fresh batteries into a springboard module, and insert it into the visor to - charge- the set which are already in it?

How about this instead - a Li Ion battery pack springboard module, which you could charge at home, using it as main power, the the 2 AAA as a backup for it when it is inserted? Sort of an extended-life power pack if you will for power users.

There's been so much talk about rechargable batteries that I've got to believe Handspring will be offering them... perhaps on the next generation Visor. I know this doesn't help any of us today but it was probably in the way of getting this baby to market and left out for future release.

I kinda like that the Visor uses AAA bateries instead of a non-removable accu.

This way you can use (regular) rechargable batteries for normal use and bring some normal AAA's with you when you travel.

I think it's the best of two worlds....

Ditto to ToolKit,
I have two sets of rechargeables and just rotate. If I ever screw up and forget to bring the extra nimhs with me (very possible), I like the ability to be able to walk into any conveniance store and grab some AAAs.

That's very true.

And, not to forget the hassle (and price) of trying to get a replacement lithium-ion when it decides to quit someday.
