I don't have a answer, but maybe a hint. My guess is that Innogear will announce a release date for the SixPak at the PC Expo 2000, June 27-29.

I too would love a more specific date. (of course, when then they DO start shipping, they will probably be very backed-up - it seems that almost everyone is waiting for this "killer" module.)

[I need to replace my digital cell phone with a dual-band one, and I'm waiting to find out which cell phones Innogear supports first... <sigh> ]

Narnia--same deal for me, but I have an ANALOG phone and want to buy a digital one. I am waiting for Innogear to announce what is compatible....

"Q: What cell phones are supported by SixPak?

A: The SixPak Cellular Modem will support both AMPS and Multimode Digital based cellular
phones. Innogear will be posting a list of supported cell phone models as soon as each phone is
fully tested and approved. We will be starting with the Motorola StarTAC and MicroTAC series.
Other manufacturers will follow including Nokia.

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to think the SIXPAK isn't the killer springboard. For those who are going to use it for wireless access, then it is still the way to go. Or for people who like to talk to their pdas. But for someone looking for a modem and some memory, there are better options out there.
The new Cardaccess Thincom is small and lowcost, and there is always the Handspring Flash Module. I can't seriously think of anytime that I would need to have both of them in at the same time.
I think my killer springboard would include:
� Modem (33.6k or faster. I'm not OBSESSED with 56k. It's a handheld, and really, it doesn't make that much of a difference.)
� GPS
� As much memory as one could cram into the remaining space (if any memory at all).

A Modem and GPS would be a REALLY tight fit (if at all possible).
Maybe I've just lost the vision, or gotten over the hype. what is the big appeal of the SIXPAK? I'm wondering what is so bad about owning a couple of springboards instead of one to perform the same task?

If all you need is wireless access, and you have yet to buy a cellphone, you may want to try this option:

I am able to connect my Visor to my Sprint PCS cellphone using the Sprint data cable and the serial cradle. I turned off handshaking (flow control in the modem preference menu). It works because the Sprint data cable has micro circuitry in the DB9 connector. This may also work with other cellphones that support wireless web. I also understand from Mark/Space that their serial cable is due out in three weeks and is supposed to perform the same function as the serial cradle.

Hey, rmapes, I have a sprintPCS phone. How long is that data connection cable? I'm just picturing 4ft. of cable for the data connection kit and a couple feet for the cradle. Not quite the small package I'd want for a "out on the town, wanna check my email" solution.

It shouldn't matter which SprintPCS phone, they all use the same signal.

Some of you already know this, but you can also avoid carrying around a cradle by getting IrLink and a compatible phone like the GSM Motorola Timeport Worldphone. The only problem is that you'll have to hold the phone and Visor close to each other in a specific manner in order for the ports to see each other.

Can you post your setup? I am unable to use my phone as a wireless modem. I use a null modem cable as a connector between the Visor cradle and the data kit.
I have set up my ISP in the "Network" prefs, turned handshaking off in "Modem" prefs. I am trying to use Proxiweb as my browser. But if I try to connect, I get the error "Error: serial port in use (0x0307)". Hotsync over the serial cradle works properly so I know the serial connection is fine. Am I missing something?

Unfortunately, I don't use my Sprint phone for that. I might when I find out that Innogear won't be releasing the cable for my cell phone (only because it's not a nokia or Motorola).

But, since you apparently own the data kit...what length is that cable? I called Sprint, but I think I know more about their products than they do.
