my prism needs a part
In the place where the hotsync/recharge connection is supposed to be made something has gone missing. I *think* it fell out when i took it out of the cradle at the office yesterday afternoon, because I noticed as I walked out the door that my Prism was loose in the slimcase when i stuck it in. At home, I thought the problem was with the slimcase until I tried to plug in a sync cable and couldn't.
Can anyone replace that little part?
Any ideas how I can charge the thing in the meantime? I'll try not to use it much in hopes I can get it fixed before it dies.
(And it *had* to be the one night this month that housekeeping chose to vacuum the office.)
Thanks!
Is there a hole where the HotSync connector used to be? If so, you are hosed. You can get a new button board, which comes with the connector, from www.GetHighTech.com Or you can contact caspercanada - he seems to have a bunch of parts from dead Prisms.
You will be losing all of your data, no matter what, unless you get a backup module.
Are you 100% sure it did not fall off Inside the Prism? One of my customers did once, and it turned out it got pushed inside the unit. We had to open it up to reseat it. You would probably hear a little rattle if it is in there. It is worth a look.

One of my co-workers (the CEO's daughter) knocked hers loose, and we got one of the techs to solder it back on.
It doesn't look complex, if you lost the actual part you should be able to knock up something that'll work out of a bit of perfboard.

Thanks! - yes, it was inside
thanks for the replies - yes, it was inside.
My boss actually suggested I look inside, and I found gethightech.com's instructions for going in. When I realized where it went and what it should take to fix it [I have no tools for (or expertise in) soldering], I decided my best bet was to order the new button board.
In the meantime, I figured it wouldn't really hurt if I attempted repairing it with KrazyGlue since it seemed the main connections weren't connected electronically. Well, it took two failed attempts (I hadn't gotten it flush, so it would just break off again) before I nearly gave up. After having to scrape off the glue from the previous tries, I finally saw where i was going wrong and got it right. I let it set for over 24 hours (i don't rely heavily on my Prism, but I did miss it more than I thought I would) and, lo and behold, it works fine now.
I never did order the part from gethightech, but I probably should since there's no way of knowing how long this stop gap measure will hold. Anyway, maybe that would fix my non-functioning recharge indicator that stopped working the first time i dropped the unit - does the LED come with the button board?
Prism repairs
You might want to try

I just bought a used Prism on ebay and I'm having him upgrade the memory. He also advertises repairs to screens, etc.
My boss just upgraded to a Treo and gave me his Prism - hardly used. It has the same problem with the connector, except that all the solder connections are broken. As soon as I can find someone handy with a solder gun I am going to get it back working. I think I'll give it to my wife.
Make sure and update this thread if you have any more problems!
