Okay, so developing springboards is way out of my league, but I'm interested in getting ideas out there for others, and to guess who the winner will be.

So, what's the most needed/coolest springboard not yet out there?

My favorites (both seen on these boards already):

1)Ethernet
2)A "Rex-like" device

others?

Dieter

Lightbulb FRS Springboard needed

I think a cool springboard would be one that would operate on the same frequency as the new handheld two-way radios like the Motorola TalkAbout. I recently bought two for the family and would love to use my VDX to communicate. All this talk about the VisorPhone and other comm mods makes me think this is in the realm of possibility.

Thats a great idea! I could use that too.

Lightbulb

What about a TV Module? I've been thinking about it for a long time and I hope it comes true for my Prism or even grayscale visors. I don't thinkg it will be too hard to do. The price should we fair and the name should be "Pocket TV module"

If anybody can develop my idea, I'm interested in doing the beta testing.

Cool

I'd like a cheap radio module with FM for under $40 preferably. Anything to fill that springport that I can use really..

I'm not sure, but I "think" someone already makes one.

My Springboard ideas so far...

-Measurer.
-AM/FM/weather digital radio.
-7 function Multi-tool. OK, not electronic, but useful anyway.
-FSR/FSR-LAN module.
-SERIOUSLY IMPROVED digital camera module. The eyemodule need a big brother.
-Atomic clock/travel alarm/stopwatch (multifunction TIME module).
-Proximity sensor module.
-Beam enhancer. The Visor's side pointing IR is limiting. A stronger and wider ranging IR sender/receiver module would make beaming more fun/useful.
-Bar code reader/product database/handyshopper app.. OK, a bar code reader is available... but WITH NO SOFTWARE!
-Fingerprint scanner. Your visor won't turn on until it recognizes your fingerprint.
-Postage Scale. Pressure sensor on back of module. Set the Visor/module on a flat hard surface. Lay a letter across it. The weight and postage will be shown on the visor's screen. It might come with a little IR postage printer, and work with E-Stamps, or something similar. It could actually PRINT a postage stamp of the right value.
-Diabetes blood sugar tester module. And software to keep a log of your readings, provide info, recommend insulin dosages, etc..
-Public Address System module. For the weak voiced. Uses the Visor's microphone for input, then amplifies and re-emits the spoken sounds. Built-in anti-feedback circuit.
-Heater module. ON a cold day, put your visor in your coat pocket. Warms it up before you put it on. (OK, not a practical idea) :-b
-Datadisk module. Lets you use those 500meg datadisks for storage on your Visor. Can anyone say "MP3 Heaven"?
-Lie detector module. Protrudes slightly above your pocket when your visor is in the pocket. Anyone who speaks to you has their voice patterns inspected for sincerity clues. If they are insincere, the module vibrates to warn you. A snapshot (picture) and recording of the "lie", are added to your liars database on the Visor.
-Module expander. Expands the springboard slot to allow you to plug in 5 of your favorite modules AT THE SAME TIME! OK, it won't be slim anymore, but hey...
-Laugh track module. Laughs at your jokes.

There, that's half of my ideas. Whatcha think?

Dave

Beam Enhancer=Omniremote Module
Fingerprint Scanner= I don't knwo the name, but it is under dev..

Datadisk..= Dataplay disks. Innogear will have a Innodrive on this (well they demoed one)

Module expander, I so want one! I've been thinking about that sence day one. IT would be 2 modules wide
and let you put a standered size module in, and an over sized module in.. SO COOL! (not to hard either right?

I already own Pronto and Cinema7 universal remotes. Omniremote's module extends the IR capability to make your Visor a Universal remote (which I don't need), but does it let you also used it's enhanced IR for standard beaming and game playing via IR?

Really? That's the least likely product I thought I had on my list! Hmmmmm.

Great! When can I buy one? I hope it will act like a flash RAM module, rather than a CF module where you can only use it for storage, and not direct access.

I wonder if the springboard port is extensible (like SCSI) or fixed address. The answer would help determine of a port expander is even possible.

Hey DBrown, now you're talking.

FYI, here's a springboard wishlist thread that we old-timers put together while we were still waiting for the first springboard modules to show up:

Talking Here's a glucose meter!

Here's one in development. It's made by Therasense.

The bummer is that, because it's a medical product, the FDA or the AMA hasn't approved it. That process could take years. :-(

Well, the floss module can be disqualified. It's already been made.

I would love to be able to turn my Visor into a handheld scanner.
The bar code scanner I mean!

Nope... can't be done. This has come up before and it's not possible to do because the Visor would have no way of knowing which module wanted its attention (the insertion and removal of a module is what the Visor responds to). I suppose some sort of hardware controller interface might be doable, but I'd imagine the cost would be prohibitive.

As for my needs, a wired ethernet/standard serial port combo would be da bomb!

The springboard is a cool idea but at times it seems like we are going overboard. Many of these things that are being suggested don't really need a pda as a backend and are much cheaper as non-springboards. I don't know, the idea kicks ass but . . . rant . . . rant . . . rant

I want a LOT of things, but the module I would be most willing ot actually BUY would be one that gave me better sound and a REAL ALARM!

Adding things like flash memory, a light alarm, etc. would be cool, but give me a module that can wake me up or signal an important appointment thorugh a case and I would be estactic!

Ok, here's my idea of a killer module:

AM/FM digital radio with extra memory for my visor and the ability to turn on according to an alarm or datebook event like a radio alarm clock.
