-- Question re 8Meg Mem module (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=15213)
I understand the handspring 8 meg module will run apps from the module but not databases. How do you handle this as a user? When you install apps does it have the smarts to move the PRC to the module and the PDB to the main memory? Also does it have problems looking for the database if it's run from the module? And finally do you have to use one of those file movers to put the PRC there after installing to the main memory? Ok one more question... have you had success with backup buddy backups and restores using it. Ok juuust one more question, if you had to spend the money all over again would you get the 8 meg upgrade from "tony" or buy the module again? And for the REAL final question... do you have another other advice or regrets to share?
I'm loaded up full with 8 megs now, and I've not even put pics or mapopolis on. gads.
James
You have to move apps with the supplied FileMover. BB will backup but not restore the module. I have upgraded from 2 meg to 8 and from 8 to 16 (different units) but I also have a 8 meg and 16 meg flash modules. I would rather upgrade given a choice.

My Treo has more memory than I do.
THanks for your feedback. I'd also like to ask, do you have any problems after moving your programs onto the card but have the databases in the main memory... Do the apps not complain they can't find their data while they are running?
Does it seem slower at all while running apps from the module?
Thanks much in advance
James
I have the 16MB Flash Module. I don't notice any difference in the operating speeds between programs run from flash module versus my Prism. In fact the most recent versions of Afterburner Hack works on the apps On the Flash Module. The other system "Speed Up" program, QuickBits, also works on programs running on the Flash Module.
I leave the Flash in all the time. I do notice if I remove it I have a soft reset. Fortunately I discovered I don't have any reason to remove it!

Also, you might want to look into a program offered by CardAccess, the people who put out the Thinmodem and Thinmodem+. I haven't looked into it, but I believe it may give you teh ability to load/unload files straight to the card, and maybe even back it up. I'll let you look into that one. Hope this helps.
