-- stowaway for $49.88 at Office Depot (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=20374)
stowaway for $49.88 at Office Depot
Today I dropped in the local Office Depot and found many stowaway keyboards for Visor (at least five) on sale for $49.88. I bought one instantly. Don't know if it's for this store only.
The store I went is located on S Cobb Pkwy, Smyrna (NW of Atlanta).
From what the managers told me at the office depot's in chicago,
They are not going to be selling Handspring products anymore.
Last month i picked up the 8mb flash for $50 and the backup module for$17

No not for that!!!!!!!!!!
Use it to reffer to PalmaSutra, silly???????
I called several Office Depots in the South Bay (SF Bay Area) and found that while handspring products will no longer be carried, the discounts have not begun. One employee, who liked my new prism and traded apps with me from his m505, speculated that the markdowns would occur in the beginning of the new year.
So hold out another few days and look around again. That's my plan.

Can someone get one for me?
The Office Depots in my area are NOT discounting them enough ($79.99), so if some KIND person would find one for $50, I'd send you an immediate payment from my PayPal account with postage of course. Please contact me either in email (fastest) or here on the board. I would need one for a Handspring Visor Neo.

PS. Never mind. I picked up the one I had on hold at Office Depot for $79.99... got a bonus in my paycheck.
Office Depot Deals
Thanks for posting the info. about the Office Depot deals! I am in the Asheville, NC area for the holidays and went to the store there. They didn't have anything on display, but when I asked a clerk checked to see what they had for the prism in the back. I got an 8 MB flash, a travel charger, a USB cradle, gameface, and a backup module for $72. All of this would have cost me $230 from Handspring online.
The clerk did not know about the discount until he scanned the products, so make sure they scan them if you inquire about discounted prices.
I checked a local Office Depot yesterday and found stuff in the clearance bin at the front of the store.
There were cradles, travel chargers, a flash module, several Targus Total Recall modules, a couple of Tiger Woods modules, and some cases. I just got the travel charger, for under $11.
I'm going to scout out a couple of other locations within driving distance and see what else I can turn up!
What seems strange to me, though, is that the relatively few times I've been in Office Depot in the last year or two, they didn't have any Visor handhelds or products. If they had them, they weren't making them easy to find.
Grabbed the 8meg flash for $20 at the Depot today. I had to ask around a bit before anyone knew about the handspring accessories.
Also nabbed the Total recall for $29. They said it was 49, but When I told them I'd give them 25, they came down to 29. Can't say I ever haggled at an office supply store before.
I went to my local Office Depot on Tuesday, but they were out of Stowaway keyboards. But I found something even better: I bought a Magellan GPS Companion for $75, half the regular price! Combined with Mapopolis 4.0 Beta and their maps, I will never get lost again!
I just got back, I bought a Travel Charger for $10.49. It was the last one in the store. I didn't see a clearance bin, but I called the store and asked if they the travel charger on clearance. He said yes, it was $10.49, and he held it for me.
SO I GUESS NOBODY BELIEVED ME BACK IN NOVEMBER 2001 THAT OFFICE DEPOT WERE GOING TO GET RID OF THIER HANDSPRING PRODUCTS? WELL I CLEANED OUT THE OFFICE DEPOT BY MY HOUSE A LONG TIME AGO AND BEEN MAKING PROFIT ON EBAY AND TO FRIENDS PLUS I CARRY A FEW THINGS WITH ME AND WHEN I RUN INTO PEOPLE WITH VISORS, I GOT'S ME'S A SALE. I SEE NOBODY EVER BELIVE'S A THING I SAY!

So I went to 2 office depots and picked up a Stowaway for $70, a Fellowes Pocket Keyboard for $35, a Prism cradle for $15, and a Prism Gameface for $10
Not spectacular, but I plan to keep on checking and then I can always sell the extras on eBay

The one here had several things on sale, but when I asked about the stowaway, they didn't think they had any left in the store. I convinced one of the girls finally to go look in the back, and, sure enough, there were at least a couple left for the visor, but they still wanted $99 for them. She had no clue that other stores were marking them down and said she could only price match within 40 miles, and not to other Office Depots. I bought several items, and I guess I'll have to go back later to see if they really want to get rid of their keyboards.

Office Depot Deals.....
Just stopped by my local Office Depot and got 4 Backup Modules (accounted for) for $10 each, and an 8 meg flash for $10 as well.. Targus Keyboards for $49.88... (They started t $69.99 but I told them I'd found them for $49.88 elsewhere, she said she'd do it... )
So, how does this flash card work? lol...
I went by my local OD over the weekend. They had the price posted, but they were sold out - which sucks, because my current Stowaway is a little beat up (the space bar sticks).
Here's the amusing thing. The sales dude (and I use that term on purpose - I'm pretty sure he'd killed so many brain cells that he often forgets where he left his car) was helping some poor woman who was trying to decide what PDA to buy. He explained that OD was no longer carrying Handspring products because he "heard they are about to merge with Palm."

had some success
I scouted out 6 Office Depots within driving distance, and really only one still had anything left, most had nothing by last week. I got a backup module for $8.88, and "the last" Stowaway from the back, $69.99. I'm kicking myself that I didn't press for $49.99, but what the heck, can't be too greedy!
They still had Total Recall modules, cradles, gameface (I think), backup and a flash module. Maybe I'll phone the last two locations (farthest away) and see if it's worth it - wish I could find a Thinmodem or GPS!
