I have had some problems beaming applications to another VDX. My visor seems to lose its connection midway through the beam. Has anyone else had this problem? This has worked fine in the past and seems to be acting up just today. The VDX that I am trying to beam to says "Receiving: ". Usually, it says the name of the application that is being received. I can receive beams with no problems.

I find that the lighting conditions around you when beaming plays a major role. The darker the ambient light the better the IR works and at a greater distance.

Could this be the problem?

I don't think this is the problem as other people do not have problems beaming in the same lighting conditions.

Red face

I am having similar IR problems. When beaming I get a "beam interrupted" message. It was first noted when I was yakking with someone re. 3com vs. Visor we were exchanging some programs. My business card beamed but all the programs I tried to beam failed. I tried to beam similar programs to my wifes IR and it failed as well. Today I tried to beam a business card and it failed, as well. Different lighting didn't make a difference. Positions didn't matter.

We have a friend with a Visor and his can beam and accept data without a problem to my wife's Visor.

Assumption: Visor IR is defective. Check your Visor IR out thouroughly.

Major hosser as I have 6 megs jammed packed worth of programs that I will have to re-enter if I have to return my Visor.

I too have had problems beaming. One imparticular was when i tried to beam a 300k app to a Palm IIIx. It kept saying it lost the connection. Is there a beam file size limit? thats my $.02

Those of you who have had this problem, has your beaming EVER worked? Is it maybe an issue with software messing up the IR port? My visor has not had problems beaming before today. I have a few IR games on it...can that affect it?

Lightbulb

Interesting thought re. IR games screwing up IR software. My problems seemed to around the time IR Pong was beamed over. IR Pong beamed over but the game did not play properly with the 3com product and the IR application has not functioned properly since although I had only used the IR a couple of times previous. I thought it was the IR but it could be the software????

BTW, there is not a problem beaming text (ie. business card, memo). I removed all the IR games and the beaming still doesn't work. Anyone have any suggestions?

Arrow

When I first got My Visor, I beamed over Launcher III from my old Palm III to it. I had problems, and couldn't get it to be aligned properly at first. It beamed over part of the program that would crash my Visor when it was ran. I even did a hard reset and it was still there (don't ask me how). I ended up having to pull the batteries out for about 20 min to get the Visor to lose the program.

Now all is well for L3 and all beaming.

My problem tends to be that, with the port on the side, my thumb gets in the way if I'm not careful. Operator error on my part. Otherwise, when I run into problems with the HotSync or IR port I just do a soft reset and the problem is cured. Couldn't hurt to try that...

I ran into this problem just today, for the first time. But I have to add that I rarely have the chance to beam anything to anyone, as I only know one other person with a PDA.

I was beamed IR pong also, though it never ran. I have deleted it now, then did a hard reset. I will see what happens next time, but you might give that a try.

Unhappy

I also have problems beaming applications. Short bursts like business cards work fine but I cannot beam applicaions. I was trying to beam to a Palm 5 and even put the units right next to each other. The connection is interupted. Looks like the may be a problem...

Problems here as well. My wife can beam from her Palm VII to my VDx, but I can't beam to her. Strangely enough, I was successful beaming to a Palm III and Palm IIIe earlier today. I had IR Pong, and the beta version of IRLink 1.6 installed, but I've removed them and completed a hard reset. I used Backup Buddy to reinstall my software- if there is a "gremlin" remaining from some of the incompatible software, would Backup Buddy put it back on the Visor after the reset?

There seems to be quite a few problems but no answers. Anyone know where to go from here?

Any of you people running over/under-clocking software?

I'm not running any over clocking programs and I have never had any IR programs installed other than what came in the OS. I, like a lot of us us hackmaster and a ton of various programs. Who wants to be the first to wipe out the memory to the basics and see if it's user installed software causing the problem?

Question

I had problems syncing and beaming after downloading ir software. I could not delete the stuff -- it went into rom. I did a hard reset and started fresh and left off the IR stuff. I can now sync and beam.

I noticed that after installing Afterburner II that beaming no longer worked. I was initially running all apps at 22MHz, then I changed the settings back to "Normal" and now beaming works again.

I guess the best way to use Afterburner is to set the speed for each individual app instead of switching the default speed.

Beaming works fine now.

Me and my friend (both of whom own visor deluxes) would occasionally have a problem beaming after playing IR Pong or something. He visor would not detect the beam, and if he tried to beam something, he would have to do a soft reset. We found the solution. Do a soft reset on the recieving device (use hackmaster or someting if you don't have a paperclip) as soon as you start having problems recieving an app or data. Then, just resend the program, and it should work again.

Well I fixed my problem. I did two things, I don't know which one worked. First I deleted all of the files is the /palm/backup directory. The reason I did this is because after a hard reset, it would install files for programs I no longer had on the Visor. I thought mabey one of these was causing a conflict. The other thing I did was a hard reset. After that, all is well.

A hard reset fixed the problem. Make sure you get backup buddy to back up your apps...then take out the batteries for 20 minutes. It does the trick. No more IR games for me!!!
