Hi there,
I am on the verge of buying a Visor Deluxe and have this question:
I have seen quite alot of info about getting a net connection to the Visor using a Springboard modem or through an IRLink with a mobile phone (Nokia 7110), but is it possible to have a 'live' net connect on the Visor using your PC's net connection?
I have a cable modem and for bulk downloading mail, web (with avantgo) and usenet, that would be FAR more convenient to 'proxy off' my PC's connection on the Visor.

Is this possible? If so, how?

While I understand what you want to do, my question is why? It just doesn't make any sense to "proxy" the Visor through the PC when you can surf a whole lot better from the PC itself.

As far as I can tell, the best way to surf with the Visor is with a Springboard modem and something like ProxiWeb.

Yes, I've attempted to do this just for the sake of trying it. In the end it just seemed like too much of a hassle. As the Eagle said, why bother?

I'm sure it can be done however.

There is a program out there that supposedly lets you establish an Internet connection with the Visor via your PC using the USB connection. It is called "LinkUSB", I think.
The problem is that you still need a corresponding program on the PC that can exchange the data with the program running on the Visor. I never looked for such a program, though.
I have to agree with what MarkEagle and Eug said, why all the hassle?
It does not really make a difference whether you download the stuff onto your PC first and then install it or directly download it onto the Visor.
However, you can still check this LinkUSB prgram out, if you like. They also have a website where they describe how to setup the program - although I think it was primarily written with the Linux user in mind...
But maybe you can figure out how to set all the stuff up.
As I said earlier, I did not bother to get into this - way too much hassle.

But I think the Visor is still a great PDA.

I was also looking into a program that does this. I know why i would want a program like this!! Think about it. You are either playing a computer game or something and you don't want to minimize it to check your icq or to check out some one's webpage. What do u do? Use your visor to check your icq or the surf the web (kind of). Well, thats just what i think. I don't want to waste the cash and buy a springboard module to do this

Why not just open a second window and use it to check whatever it is you want to check?
- I use NT at work and W98 at home and frequently have 6 or more windows open ( often with several web instances) - flipping between them as I need to.
- I certainly wouldn't consider my VDXs screen an adequate substitite for any window.
- Sounds as if you're looking for a solution in need of a problem!

"linkusb" works just fine. it's an app running on the visor. the key is you need a pppd on the PC side to talk with it. I don't know how to do it under win98, but it's not so hard for linux.
