Best Buy and Visor
Is Best Buy going to quit carrying Visors? I looked on thier website and they have all of the PPC, Palm, and Sony models listed, but not a single Handspring device. My co-worker wants to get an orange Deluxe, but her parents won't do a credit card order over the web so she needs to get it from a store. I was going to check Best Buy's website to see what colors they had, but they do not have a single Handspring unit listed.... Does anyone know what the deal is?

I've noticed this too since the day Bestbuy.com started. My friends dad was one of the lead people ont he DB team and he couldn't give me an answer. My inquirys of Best Buy.com through e-mail, led to rude responces of mail the corporate hq of bestbuy (not the bb.com div) a letter. They woudln't forward it anywhere or anything (my e-mails)..
who knows.

I actually noticed that the bestbuy near my house had Visor Prisms in stock for the first time in months!
Maybe Handspring has limited supply...that would explain the lack of models except the newest ones....
The information that Handspring.com is the only way to get a Green VDX is incorrect. I bought my GVDX at either Office Depot or Office MAX. I also believe that at that time they had the orange. Keep checking the stores in your area.

Thanks for the help. My co-worker doesn't want to pay more than $120, and she thinks the m105 is ungly. She isn't a poweruser by any means, and just wants to get organized in school and at work. It looks like if she can't find a Deluxe she is just going to skip it. She keeps talking about how much clothes $100 can buy.... I guess we all have our priorities.

I believe that Tiger Direct, www.tigerdirect.com, has the Visor Deluxe for $99.

Orange VDX
I seem to recall that CompUSA had the Green and Orange when I bought my ICE.
Not to flame troll, but I don't think that they ever *restricted* any retailer from a specific color or made them intentionally hard to get (coughcough*Apple*coughcough) but it was what the retailer ordered. Blue was a popular choice, and so was Ice, but Green and Orange were (at least according to the folks at CompUSA I talked to) the red-headed stepchild color. People would buy them, but only if nothing else was available.
Cheers!

When I was looking to buy my Handspring, I, too, was puzzled by the fact that they could be found in the Best Buy store -- but not on the website. A good friend of mine just happens to work for www.bestbuy.com so I thought that I would pass the question by her. Her response doesn't really clear things up, but here's what she said:
"I quickly asked around about the Handspring not being on the website. The consensus is that you should not worry. There are alot of things that end up in our stores and not on the website. Sometimes it may be that we simply can't keep enough stock on hand so as to not disappoint the customer. I wouldn't worry too much. If you see them in the store and the price ends in a 8 or a 9 ($19.99 or $19.98) that means that they are still considered part of our mainstream product line and we will have them around for a while."
Again, doesn't give a definitive answer ... but it's something.
What about something ending in 5? (19.95...) That seems rather common, but does it mean something else at BB?
Edge Release - Toby
Toby -
you are indeed correct. I paid *no* attention to the Edge release. From the sales of the Edge, I assume I wasn't alone.
The only one I remember paying attention to was the original Visor Deluxe. And only because I was torn between a IIIxe and
the Ice. I still think I made the right choice, although I could strangle whomever in HS made the choice to *not* release OS updates for us original clients.
Cheers!

I was looking around the Best Buy site and saw that they now list Handspring products... Think they will have the Treo availible online?

Red Visors at best Buy
For a while this year, the Best Buy near my house had a few silver Edges and a Red Edge sitting on the shelf. I was in the market for a blue Edge, so I ended up ordering it through HS. I saw threads that said that Best Buy may be dropping HS.
This week, the shelf is full of all the Edge colors! Also, the blue Edge I bought in February has been working great. So, perhaps HS was doing some Edge fixing and is now starting to increase the supply backorders. I noticed that OfficeMAx did not have any in stock for months, but now they do. Someone reported that Edges sold are 1% of the market.....where do those stats come from? Are they posted somewhere on the internet?
I talked a guy into guying an Edge while at Best Buy one evening... and the girl working there said that they only carried the Silver Edge... I may have to take another look in the next few days. It would be great if they have all the colors in. Now if they would just start carrying the Blue T615....

Saw a TREO Today at BestBuy
I was surprised to see a number of VisorPrism's and totally shocked when I saw a TREO 180 (keyboard) in the display case. The guy at the counter, knew me from a previous discussion I had with him a few weeks ago about my VisorPrism/VisorPhone. I asked him if I could check it out. I took the SIM Card from my VisorPhone and put it in the TREO and made a few calls to see how it functioned. I was impressed.
The size was very compact. The sound quality on the phone seemed to be pretty good and I could hear the speaker phone relatively well (there was allot of background noise in the store, so it wasn't perfectly clear). I played with it for about 5min but could tell he was getting antsy about me playing with it so much.
Nice device, it's good to see BestBuy is still carrying Handspring products. I don't think I'll be buying a TREO though. As a part-time PalmOS developer, I prefer my Prism since I can add any springboard I want (barcode modules, Xircom 802.11b, Bluetooth, etc.) and develop code for it. There's just too many cool modules out there that don't yet exist for SD/MMC/MS.
If HS develops a Prism2, I'd be one of the first in line to buy. Or, if HS develops a TREO that is Color and capable of utilizing Springboards. Then again, I may just keep the investment I have for development and move on to another Licensee for everyday use (SONY or PalmSource)... The TREO was nice though... Just not expandable, something I require in a handheld.

In the Avatar, she is playing some tunes on the SoundsGood MP3 player. It's amazing how fast kids can learn if you give them a chance. Now if I could just keep her from making those long distance calls on my VisorPhone...
