Question

My wife and I each have a Visor. At home we each have a PC workstaion with a data/print server networked between our offices. The Palm application and SYNC cradle is installed on the server. I had hoped we could each access the one Palm application (on the server) view each other's schedule (by changing the "user") and make addition/changes to help manage our schedules. Thus, when either of us SYNC'd our Visor we would have an upto date view of any shared items (schedule, phone data, notes, etc.) as long as it was updated for the correct user.

The Palm application will not allow this, even if installed on each workstaion I can not (or do not know how) to view/modify another users data when on another PC.

Visor customer support says there is no way I can do this.

But, I was hoping someone in this discussion form would know how I might do this? I surely can not be the only person who wants this type of joint family access to the Plam Data.

Anyone know how I might configure the Application or purchae 3rd party software to do this?

Hi Lee3--

By design, the Palm Desktop application is a "single user" access-only program-- that is, only one person at a time, can access their Palm desktop data information. So, out of the box, you can't do it.

For what you want to accomplish, you'll need additional software (or a combination of software and Internet access) to share data across multiple Palm devices. Mark's suggestion of wesync.com is a good one-- if you have a near-constant or constant Internet connection.

If you do not or chose not to have a full-time internet connection, the "solution" will get a tad expensive and elaborate. I'll describe one here:

- You would need to replace the Palm Desktop software with one that supports multiple users. Outlook 97/98/2000 is one such desktop product.

- You would need to replace the internal DateBook application with one that supports multiple catetories (DateBk3 and DateBk4 does but DateBook+ does not).

- You would need to use PocketMirror 3.0 (which is not supplied with your Visor-- a 2.0.4 version I believe is what is burned on the CD). PocketMirror 3.0 allows sync'ing to multiple Outlook calendars. The in-depth How-To can be found here on Chapura's support site.

It pretty much comes down to the lesser of two evils.

Thumbs up

Thank you for your input. It may not be clear but what I was thinking was I did not need to "SYNC" with my spouse's Calendar, just view it and add the items that pertain to me. I'll think about these solutions.

I suppose I could do what I do at work, I use Exchange at work. It can be viewed and modified by select others and using "Intellisync" I SYNC my Visor to the Exchange callendar. If I had Exchange at home (or OutLook) I could configure so my spouse and I could view/modify each others calendars then SYNC.

But, it's unfortunate that all this is needed (3 applications and two SYNC cradles). At home it seems one SYNC cradle and one application (viewed on multi work stations) would provide a simple solution. It's not like we have a "enterprize net" set up, just a print server.

Thanks again I'll study these options and see eait to see if any other people have ideas also.

Then, I'd go that route. Since the PalmOS built-in DateBook app and the Palm Desktop app was not designed to be a mult-user share/view-access program, using an appropriate PIM on the desktop at home will do the trick.

I take it that at the office, you just copy the desired (or available) events on the shared calendar and paste it over to your calendary. If that's so, I don't see any reason to go with the stuff mentioned in my previous message or use an Internet solution.

One cradle is all that would be necessary if you use Outlook and PocketMirror as the conduit.

Thanks for elaborating.
