-- Boards out of control! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11682)
To EricG (and everybody else):
I never expected my post about the InnoDrives to cause such an uproar. If you notice the thread name it had '?!?' at the end of it, meaning surprise. I thought maybe someone on the board would have more info, but it's kind of hard to believe it's a working product when the company developing it says it not theirs. Please understand where I'm coming from. As far as I'm concerned the InnoDrive issue has been settled so I'm content.
Many people still have issues with the company and it seems that InnoGear is really looking to change their practice and image (which is apparent from their correspondance with me) so I'm more than happy to give them a chance to prove themselves.
Excellent points Orion, (btw - I never thought your thread was a bashing thread.. I also was initially somewhat surprised by the response from them, but I thought about the history and then it made some sense).. My responses were to Sassy's comment on all the "general" bashing that has been going on.
If they want to improve things I am all for it.. If they want my feedback I'd be more than happy to give them pointers on what they can do to make things better. In the end it just means more cool toys for the Visor.. (it's all about the toys right..
) (and for those with negative feelings still, which you have all the right in the world to feel that way if you want, there is no law saying you have to buy from them if you don't want to, it's a free market economy, support their competition instead..)
Innogear has to earn my business. All they've earned so far is animosity. When I see some change I'll give them a second chance. When they have the common courtesy to tell the truth I'll give them a second chance. Peace, love, and understanding are all well and good to a degree. Beyond that degree it becomes navet. So no, I won't stop "bashing" Innogear until I see changes. That's how capitalism works: by consumers informing consumers. If it offends your sensibilities you don't need to read the posts. I'm not saying you can't read the posts, I'm merely saying that the blanket of affection you're so willing to drape over Innogear should extend to the people who have been lied to, had very sensitive information left wide open on the internet, and/or had to put up with sub-standard customer support. You want my brain power to figure out a way for Innogear to solve its problems? Here you go. Quite jacking off the consumer. Any brain power beyond that needs to come from Innogear itself.

BTW, the couple of people posting their good experiences with Innogear is a step in the right direction for them. I hope for their sake they keep it up. If they don't they'll kiss their company good-bye in relatively short order.

I agree they have a long way to go in some areas..
I really don't get Sassyvisorbabe's outrage at the message boards. The only time we hear from her, or her twin, Hotvisorbabe, is when the subject of Innogear comes up. I don't remember seeing a single post from her on the screen protector 14+ pages of postings when InventorB was getting jumped. If you work for Innogear, Sassyvisorbabe, come clean and let us know. Maybe we have been too hard on them with the information we have. But when a company advertises they have the killer springboard module everyone wants, release slips not a month or two, but over a year, then is dropped completely after producing a working prototype, I think the consumer has reason to be a bit angry. I was interested in buying the MP3 player from them, but after the feature of being able to store and run apps from it didn't materialize, I felt more than disappointed.
Other companies have slipped their release dates, notably Tactillis, but have provided the public a reasonable apology and explaination. If Innogear will just say thay can't produce the SixPak because it will cost $350 instead of the $200 promised, that is at least an answer the consumer can live with. The consumer has the right to know what a company is capable of and what it is up against. Just ask anyone who invested in a dotcom company this past year if they would like to know what a company is producing and how their investments are being spent. After losing two TRILLION dollars this past year in the stock market, I don't think the public is prepared to waste money on a company that can't produce what is advertised.

Its not like any of you people are invested in InnoGear, if a date slips or their product is not released then I guess you're going to be dissapointed but its not hurting you in anyway. To give credit to InnoGear, they were practically the first Springboard maker and they're the only 3rd party with 2 Modules out. It looks like InnoGear is trying to solve a lot of their previous problems and I really don't think we need entire boards that repeat the same old "InnoGear let me down, they have to realise that customers are important blah blah blah". Stop looking for ways to attack them and just let them do their stuff.
Not to attack or "bash" GeoDiscovery but they are very much like InnoGear but they only recieve praise. Their Geode was delayed several times and when it was released it was done so lacking critical features such as color & writing to cards. I just hope they're able to get that update out soon before the boards bring Hell to them.

Innogrea and the zen of Palm
This post is only peripherally related to the discussion thread but...
I have no comment on Innogear or its products other than to say perhaps their initial plans for a plethora of multi-use modules was misguided. I mean, Palm and Handspring has always espoused simplicity and the springboard slot was meant to be a cartridge for the user to change his/her Visor's "personality" based upon the task at hand. Designing multifunction modules is difficult, expensive and ultimately defeating (IMHO.) I mean, if I wanted a do-everthing device that was unreliable and unintuitive, I would have bought a PocketPC or Revo. I personally prefer the modules with simple design goals (MP3 player, modem) and simple plastics over the modules that promise more, cost more and don't deliver.
For example, I like the aesthetic of the soundsgood, which does its basic function better than the minijam (again, IMHO, but the file transfer rate difference between the two says it all to me.) The soundsgood may not have the expandability of the minijam, but who doubts that the module is more thoroughly engineered and has delivered 100% on its promise? The minijam, impressive as it is, has not fulfilled its potential as of yet. I, for one, think Innogear may have bitten off more than it can swallow on the minijam, and may have trouble seeing serious profit on the device. In that same vein, I think Innogear may have overextended themselves with the sixpack and did what they had to do in cancelling the project. I hope their next generation of products, such as the innodrive series, is indicative of their newfound focus on simplicity. I also hope, as should we all, that this innovative and important company for the Handspring economy has what it takes to survive its current woes.
Just my two cents.

But they had a modicum of honesty to their credit, not to mention that they actually released their product. Time will tell if Innogear has turned over a new leaf.

Not to mention that Geodiscovery gave the "early adopters" the consolation prize of the 5 National Parks packs as an apology. They are also very active on their discussion boards taking, and responding to, customer feedback.
