Platinum Wipeout

I was stunned on Monday, when for no apparent reason ALL OF THE DATA on my platinum disapppeard. I was in Europe and had not used it for 5 days. I used it on the plane home and it was fine. I returned to my office, put it in my cradle, turned it on and all was lost. I hot synced to retrieve data thank god. Can anyone help with an explanation as to the cause of my catastrophe?

Lawson,

how long have you had your plat?

was there a chance the batteries were jarred lose during your trip causing a memory erasure?

I have my Plat for about a year. Yes, it is possible that my batteries may have been jarred loose. In fact, I find it difficult sometimes to change them and in doing so I may have loosened the springs.

Unhappy

I was on holidays recently, I went on a short but energetic run (about half a kilometre, I was racing my brother... I was on foot, he was in a car ). It wasn't a jarring sprint, but it was pretty fast.

Anyway, I was holding my Visor Platinum in my hand, and when I got back, it was wiped. Could have been the up-and-down motion of my arms pumping that wiped it. Either the batteries were shook loose (which I don't find probable) or the internal components just don't like that sort of shock and went into shut-down. Were you doing anything of the sort?

In any case, having your Visor wiped when you're on holidays and nowhere near a place to restore from backup, that isn't much fun.

Me too...

I've had a couple power blackouts -- 2 of them were due to a PNY 64meg CF card I had in the Memplug - Don't know if its the brand, model, or that particular card, but it was a power hog. Leave it in the machine and it would drain the thing dry within hours... I've got two other cards that have done the same thing.

I had one such occurence walking across an office park. I stopped to swap carts and use the handcam, but was surprised to find the thing EMPTY. Fortunately I have a backups on my Memplug, but it was a couple days old, and I'd downloaded software the night before I was trying out. Since then I back up to the CF card somewhat more frequently, and always after I install something new. That way even if I have a situation of battery-induced PDA amnesia, I'm not at a loss for more than a few minutes. (I still don't know what caused it, but I was wearing it on my belt... I don't think the jarring could have been that bad...)
