Question

Hi,

I've had my Visor for a few months now, and would like to sync my Outlook calendar/email to my Visor.

The thing is, we're a satellitte office of a bigger company, and to access our email we use a web-based version of Outlook. So, there's no Outlook software on our desktops that we use. Is it possible to sync to this? I've never done any kind of calendar/email synching before, so I'm a little in the dark here. Any clues would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If there is such method, I haven't come across it in my travels, sorry :-(

The problem is that the web page the Exchange server serves up is nearly HTML (with some ActiveX thrown in). It's like reading this web page-- HTML stuff-- you really can't "sync" to an HTML page, just copy the contents down to your Visor. You might be able to use AvantGo to get to your mail but I'd guess you'd be able to read messages, and not able to send or reply/forward. Not to mention some of the Javascript and frames stuff that will get served up may be a tough thing for AvantGo to handle.

In the meantime, there's a couple of ways that you can explore...

1) You might want to ask your Exchange/mail/network administrator if they would be open to the idea of using remote PDA synchronization products along with their Exchange server (big words, I know-- but your network gurus should be able to decipher that). There's a product from Pumatech called "Intellisync Anywhere for Microsoft Exchange" that allows remote PDA users, like yourself, to sync with their Exchange/Outlook calendar and mailbox over the Internet/Intranet. You can pass along this link (http://www.pumatech.com/intellisync_anywhere.html) to your computer folks.

2) The other is to actually use an Outlook desktop client at your end sync with the Exchange server (to get both the mail _and_ the calendar...the latter cannot be accessed with a traditional POP3 client) and your local computer and then use the traditional HotSync to sync with your Visor. You will have to ask your computer folks if this is allowed/possible (they may not allow this, but it doesn't hurt to ask).

Hope that helps.
