I will be buying my first cell phone soon. I know virtually nothing about them, but want to be able to take advantage of upcoming modem modules (such as Innogear's SixPack) for wireless email/web.

What should I look for -- I'm really interested in the simplest (read: cheapest) phone(s) that will be supported.

Thanks in advance.

Well, Innogear's FAQ states that connectivity will first be available for the StarTAC/MicroTAC phones. Personally, I prefer the Nokia phones, but those will likely get support after the Motorola ones.

Much of it depends upon the support and plans in your areas, because there are good setups for all the standards, including GSM, CDMA, and TDMA. Some support data better than others though.

You may want to think about buying a phone with an internal modem. You then don't need a springboard module unless you want to connect over a land line.

I have a Siemens S25 connecting to my Visor with IR and it works a treat. Lots of features for not much money and it supports WAP as well.

Sounds great -- is this sold in the states?
I looked a bit, couldn't find it. Thanks.
