Question

I have owned a palm personal for about 2 years. In that time I have never come close to filling up the memory. For those of you who dont know that is only Meg of memory. I just ordered a Visor Deluxe, because the price is great and I like top of the line toys/ tools. The current programs on my palm are
Ad&D assistant: a tool for keeping track of D&D characters
HackMaster
LauncherIII: Love this utility
LizO: The Lizard man army for 40K
LogoHack: Currently I have the BabCom come up
MiddleCapsHack: very useful
Pocket Chess: 29 k of butt kicking chess game
TealInfo: text viewer
Time Tracker: Keeps track of billable hours (I am a computer constant)
Update 2.0.4: wow you mean I can upgrade my OS without Flash Memory

All of that added together gets me up to 279k just over my massive 480 possible. Any suggestion on what I can do with the other 7 meg of memory I will have left over when I get done loading all the stuff on my current palm. This is a serious question what in the heck am I going to do with all that memory.

As always Peace

Bryan

I was thinking that maybe I could use the 8MB to maintain a portion of a web site. Think of it, you can just say hey, that's interesting I think I'll put it on the site. I've been looking for tools to automatically pull say a memo and save it as a file. Then I can add a tool to automatically upload that file everynight at midnight.

The other option is to maintain the pages in a database table with the pages since I've seen tools for editing and syncing those to the palm.

Cool

I'm planning on putting a couple of versions of the Bible on mine. That'll be a good 3-4M right there!

I plan on putting the Bible on mine and using the rest for AvantGo channels and ebooks.

With the Bibles and etexts, do you need a special document reader?

For information on etext readers go to http://www.MemoWare.com/mw-helpf.htm . Another great source is http://www.PeanutPress.com .

I had my doubts at first, but now I have read easily 15 books on my PalmPilot. (I can't wait to get my Visor for the sharper screen.)

Talking

The two Bible programs I've seen are not simply readers; they're actual Electronic Bible programs, and they're free (unless you want to buy a license for the NIV). I don't know their merits, because I don't have a Visor yet to try them myself! Anyway, here's the links:
http://olivetree.com/ http://www.thefedors.com/scripture/

I hope they are good!

Thumbs up

In case anyone is interested, i use Scripture ( http://www.thefedors.com/scripture/ ) and it is excellent. I can load groups of books instead of everything in the Bible, and it has a great search feature. The KJV is free, and the NIV version is only $20.

Oh - I was coming sooooo close to buying a cheap Palm V from VA - and now I'm wondering whether that 2Mb will be enough...

What a ridiculously silly thing to become such a *hard* decision.

(How have you guys (JHromadka & Mike1in3) found using your scripture software on '2Mb and under' pilots? -'cause that was one of things I was planning to fill it up with.)

The Olive Tree files take about 1.6-1.8 MB on the Palm device. I don't have a Palm to try it out, so I can't tell you for sure what it looks like. This is going based upon the Zip files I downloaded. Olive Tree looks to be the better, because it stores the files on the Palm compressed, and uncompresses the Scriptures as it needs them.

I was real close to defecting to the V until I saw this... Besides, I like the fast USB option on the Palm.

Looks like I'm still waiting.

Right now I just have the New Testament on my Palm. That is about 4-500K (I think) so it doesn't affect me.

In my year and a half with my P3, first I was putting everything on there and filling it all the time. Now I have whittled it down to about 20 extra programs, and of those only 5 do I use regularly.

dj,

There are couple of after-market companies that can increase the memory in a Palm V to 8MB if you need it one day.

Has anyone tried any bible reading software other than olivetree and scripture? I have also tried Edgar's pilotdoc bible.

So far, I like scripture the best. I was wondering if there are any others to consider?
